Yakke Wali
''Yakke Wali'' is a 1957 Pakistani Punjabi language film directed by M. J. Rana and produced by Bari Malik. It tells the story of a woman who earns a living by driving a tanga. Musarrat Nazir played the title role in the film with Sudhir, M. Ajmal and Neelo in prominent roles. ''Yakke Wali'' is inspired by the short story "License" by Saadat Hassan Manto. ''Yakke Wali'' was successful at the box office and received rave reviews. Plot ''Yakke Wali'' revolves around a hardworking and brave Punjabi woman, Laali, who supports her family by driving a tanga. She drives around her village but one day owing to her fight with some of the villagers, she leaves the village and goes to the city of Lahore. Being a female in Lahore, it becomes difficult for her to drive the tanga, so she decides to disguise herself as a man and starts driving for her survival and to make a daily living. Musarrat Nazir
Musarrat Nazir Khawaja ( ur, ; born 13 October 1937) is a Pakistani singer and film actress, who acted in many Urdu and Punjabi films. She, many years later, also sang solo, mostly wedding and folk songs. Early life Her parents were a Punjabi middle-class family Kashmiri origin from Lahore. Her father Khwaja Nazir Ahmed, worked as a registered contractor in Lahore Municipal corporation. Early in her life, her parents wanted her to be a doctor, and provided her with the best possible education they could afford. Musarrat passed the matriculation examination (10th grade) with distinction and passed the intermediate examination (12th grade) from Kinnaird College in Lahore. Shah Zaman Khan Afridi better known as Sudhir (Urdu: ) or Lala Sudhir (25 January 1921 – 19 January 1997) was a Pakistani actor, director and producer. Sudhir was a highly respected film personality. Neelo Begum (born Cynthia Alexander Fernandes; ''née'' Abida Riaz; 30 June 1941 – 30 January 2021) was a Pakistani veteran film actress. She made her film debut in 1956 with Hollywood film ''Bhowani Junction''. She was known as ''The Queen of Romance'' and ''The Princess of Romance'' for her portrayal of romantic roles. She worked in more than one hundred and thirty-four Pakistani films including Urdu and Punjabi language films. Ghulam Ahmed Chishti ( Punjabi, ur, ), (often abbreviated to G.A. Chishti) ( Punjabi, ur, ), (17 August 1905 – 25 December 1994) was a Pakistani music composer, attributed as being one of the founders of Indian and Pakistani film music. Tanga (carriage)
A tonga or tanga is a light carriage or curricle drawn by one horse (compare ekka (carriage), ekka) used for transportation in the Indian subcontinent. They have a canopy over the carriage with a single pair of large wheels. The passengers reach the seats from the rear while the driver sits in front of the carriage. Some space is available for baggage below the carriage, between the wheels. This space is often used to carry hay for the horses. Tangas were popular before the advent of automobiles and are still in use in some parts of the Indian subcontinent. They are a popular mode of transportation because they are fun to ride in, and are usually cheaper to hire than a Taxicab, taxi or Auto rickshaw, rickshaw. However, in many cities, tangas are not allowed to use highways because of their slow pace. Saadat Hasan Manto (; Punjabi, ur, , ; 11 May 1912 – 18 January 1955) was a Pakistani writer, playwright and author born in Ludhiana, who was active in British India and later, after the 1947 partition of India, in Pakistan. Ahmad Rahi (12 November 1923 – 2 September 2002) was a Punjabi poet and writer from Pakistan. Early life He was born 12 November 1923 in Amritsar, British India. His real name was Ghulam Ahmad, a name given by his spiritual leader Khorsheed Ahmad. He completed his basic early education from Amritsar, India in 1940.
