Y Lolfa
Y Lolfa (Welsh language, Welsh for ''The Lounge'', ) is a Welsh printing and publishing company based in Tal-y-bont, Ceredigion, in Mid-Wales. It publishes a wide variety of books in Welsh and English. It also provides a commercial print service. Y Lolfa was established in 1967 by Robat Gruffudd. It is now an independent, limited company run by the founder's sons, Garmon Gruffudd (managing director) and Lefi Gruffudd (head of publishing), with Paul Williams as production manager. Using the new small offset printing method, the company began by producing material both for the activist ''Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg'' (The Welsh Language Society), with which it was loosely associated, and for its own publications which included ''Lol (magazine), Lol'', the satirical magazine from which the company's name, meaning 'the lounge', was derived. Tal-y-bont, Ceredigion
Tal-y-bont (also known as Talybont) is a village in Ceredigion, Wales, located on the A487 road about halfway between Aberystwyth and Machynlleth. At the 2011 census the population was 662 with 63% born in Wales. Tal-y-bont is in the community of Ceulanamaesmawr. History The village stands on the Afon Leri and the Afon Ceulan in the area of Genau'r Glyn, at the foot of Ceulan Maes-mawr (). There are old silver and lead mines and woolen mills surrounding the village. Although silver and lead had been mined in the area since Roman times, it was not until the 19th century that the village began to grow dramatically; the terraces were built during this period for workers who migrated to the area. Many of the houses, for example, the pharmacy, are listed buildings and maintain original features such as sliding sash windows. Lol (magazine)
LOL, or lol, is an initialism for laughing out loud and a popular element of Internet slang. A papur bro (''local paper''; plural ''papurau bro'') is a Welsh-language local community newsletter, produced by volunteers and generally published monthly. The first such publication was ''Y Dinesydd'', established in Cardiff in April 1973. There are currently 58 ''papurau bro'', produced throughout Wales. Cymdeithas Yr Iaith Gymraeg
The Welsh Language Society ( cy, Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg, often abbreviated to Cymdeithas yr Iaith or just Cymdeithas) is a direct action pressure group in Wales campaigning for the right of Welsh people to use the Welsh language in every aspect of their lives. The current Chair of Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg is Mabli Siriol. History and background The Society was established in name on 4 August 1962 at Pontarddulais in South Wales, but did not have a constitution until 18 May 1963. The formation was at least partly inspired by the annual BBC Wales Radio Lecture given on 13 February 1962 by Saunders Lewis and entitled '' Tynged yr iaith'' (The fate of the language).
