''Y-Mag'' is a South African magazine established in 1998 from a joint partnership between Studentwise, publishers of white youth targeted '' SL Magazine'', and black youth targeted Johannesburg radio station YFM. History Published under the pay-off "Y - because I want to know", the magazine was targeted to tap into the market that made YFM the biggest regional station at the time. This was what was referred to as the ''Y Generation'', a "freedom's children" that got to celebrate the freedom of an apartheid-free South Africa. Kwaito
Kwaito is a music genre that emerged in Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa, during the 1990s. It is a variant of house music that features the use of African sounds and samples. Kwaito songs occur at a slower tempo range than other styles of house music and Kwaito often contains catchy melodic and percussive loop samples, deep bass lines, and vocals. Despite its similarities to hip hop music, Kwaito has a distinctive manner in which the lyrics are sung, rapped and shouted. Tlou Cleopas Monyepao (born January 17, 1980), professionally known as DJ Cleo, is a South African Kwaito, House music and Hip hop producer. He was born in Gauteng. DJ Cleo has enjoyed a long and fruitful career in the South African music industry, he produced successful singles and albums for various artists before going on to produce and release his debut album "Es'khaleni" in 2004. His 2012 Single "Facebook" earned him three awards at 18th SAMA. His eleventh album ''Eskhaleni 11'' (2019), which include single "Yile Gqom" and ''Yile Piano, Vol. 1'' (2019). ''Khabzela: The Life And Times Of A South African'' is a bestselling 2005 biography written by South African author Liz McGregor about South African disc jockey Fana Khaba (known as "Khabzela"), who died from AIDS. Khabzela was popular among listeners to Yfm, a youth radio station in Gauteng. Synopsis The book recounts how the author, Liz McGregor, was asked while working as a freelance journalist for '' Poz'' magazine to write a story about a black celebrity infected with HIV. When Khabzela announced on the radio in April 2003 that he was infected, he seemed to make an ideal subject. Urban contemporary music, also known as urban music, hip hop, urban pop, or just simply urban, is a music radio format. The term was coined by New York radio DJ Frankie Crocker in the early to mid-1970s as a synonym for Black music. FM broadcasting is a method of radio broadcasting using frequency modulation (FM).
