Xavier Tanner
Xavier Tanner (born 2 May 1956) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with North Melbourne and Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). A centreman, Tanner was recruited to the VFL from Wodonga in the Ovens & Murray Football League. He played in North Melbourne's 1977 premiership side and their losing grand final the following season. After exactly 100 games with North Melbourne he joined his old coach Ron Barassi at Melbourne in 1984 and spent the last two seasons of his career with them. Tanner is currently the assistant principal at Wanganui Park Secondary College in Shepparton, Victoria. Wodonga Football Club
The Wodonga Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Bulldogs'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the city of Wodonga, Victoria. History Wodonga's first recorded match was against the Albury Football Club on Saturday, 6 July 1878 in Wodonga. Between 1878 and 1891, Wodonga played many intermittent friendly matches against other local club's and towns, before organised fixtures and competitions were starting to be arranged from the early 1890s. In 1886, the Wodonga Junior Football Club played Chiltern in a very rough match, with T Powell captaining the winning Wodonga side and in 1887, Wodonga Junior's journeyed to and were beaten by Chiltern. Richmond Football Club
The Richmond Football Club, nicknamed the Tigers, is an Australian rules football team playing in the Australian Football League (AFL). Between its inception in the Melbourne suburb of Richmond in 1885 and 1907, the club competed in the Victorian Football Association (VFA), winning two premierships. Richmond joined the Victorian Football League (now known as the AFL) in 1908 and has since won 13 premierships, most recently in 2020. Richmond's headquarters and training facilities are located at its original home ground, the Punt Road Oval, which sits adjacent to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), the club's playing home since 1965. 1941 VFL Season
The 1941 VFL season was the 45th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 26 April until 27 September, and comprised an 18-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The premiership was won by the Melbourne Football Club for the fifth time and third time consecutively, after it defeated by 29 points in the 1941 VFL Grand Final. Premiership season In 1941, the VFL competition consisted of twelve teams of 18 on-the-field players each, plus one substitute player, known as the 19th man. A player could be substituted for any reason; however, once substituted, a player could not return to the field of play under any circumstances. Gerald Tanner
Gerald Thomas Tanner (24 August 1921 – 10 January 2022) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Richmond in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of Aloysius Lindsay Walter Tanner (1890-1990), and Monica Amy Tanner (1895-1963), née Knight, Gerald Thomas Tanner was born at Wodonga, Victoria on 24 August 1921. He married Margaret Raie Murphy (1928-2005) on 12 November 1949. He is the father of former North Melbourne and Melbourne player, Xavier Tanner. Football Tanner was originally from Wodonga, played with Cobram in 1939 and 1940. Tanner returned to Wodonga in 1945 and went onto play 120 games with Wodonga, including their 1949 O&MFL grand final loss to Albury. Ovens & Murray Football League
The Ovens and Murray Football Netball League (O&MFNL) is an Australian rules football and netball competition containing ten clubs based in north-eastern Victoria, the southern Riverina region of New South Wales and the Ovens and Murray area. The name comes from the Ovens River, the river in the part of north-eastern Victoria covered by the league, and the Murray River, which separates Victoria and New South Wales. The league features three grades in the Australian rules football competition, with these being First-Grade, Reserve-Grade and Under 18s. In the netball competition, there are four grades, with these being A-Grade, B-Grade, C-Grade and Under 16s. Currently a home and away season consisting of eighteen rounds is played.
