XML Interface For Network Services
XML Interface for Network Services (XINS) is an open-source technology for definition and implementation of internet applications, which enforces a specification-oriented approach. Specification-oriented approach The specification-oriented approach is at the heart of XINS: * first specifications need to be written; * then documentation and code is generated from these specifications; * then both testing and implementation can start. From specifications, XINS is able to generate: * HTML documentation * test forms * SOAP-compliant WSDL * a basic Java web application * unit test code (in Java) * stubs (in Java) * client-side code (in Java) Components of the XINS technology Technically, XINS is composed of the following: * An XML-based specification format for projects, APIs, functions, types and error codes * A POX-style RPC protocol (called the ''XINS Standard Calling Convention''), compatible with web browsers (HTTP parameters in, XML out). * A tool for generating human-readab ...

XML-RPC
XML-RPC is a remote procedure call (RPC) protocol which uses XML to encode its calls and HTTP as a transport mechanism.Simon St. Laurent, Joe Johnston, Edd Dumbill. (June 2001) ''Programming Web Services with XML-RPC.'' O'Reilly. First Edition. History The XML-RPC protocol was created in 1998 by Dave Winer of UserLand Software and Microsoft, with Microsoft seeing the protocol as an essential part of scaling up its efforts in business-to-business e-commerce. As new functionality was introduced, the standard evolved into what is now SOAP. UserLand supported XML-RPC from version 5.1 of its Frontier web content management system, released in June 1998. XML-RPC's idea of a human-readable-and-writable, script-parsable standard for HTTP-based requests and responses has also been implemented in competing specifications such as Allaire's Web Distributed Data Exchange (WDDX) and webMethod's Web Interface Definition Language (WIDL). Prior art wrapping COM, CORBA, and Java RMI objects i ...

Internet Protocols
The Internet protocol suite, commonly known as TCP/IP, is a framework for organizing the set of communication protocols used in the Internet and similar computer networks according to functional criteria. The foundational protocols in the suite are the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), the User Datagram Protocol (UDP), and the Internet Protocol (IP). In the development of this networking model, early versions of it were known as the Department of Defense (DoD) model because the research and development were funded by the United States Department of Defense through DARPA. The Internet protocol suite provides end-to-end data communication specifying how data should be packetized, addressed, transmitted, routed, and received. This functionality is organized into four abstraction layers, which classify all related protocols according to each protocol's scope of networking. An implementation of the layers for a particular application forms a protocol stack. From lowest to high ...

Hessian Web Service Protocol
Hessian is a binary Web service protocol that makes Web services usable without requiring a large framework, and without learning a new set of protocols . Because it is a binary protocol, it is well-suited to sending binary data without any need to extend the protocol with attachments. Hessian was developed by Caucho Technology, Inc. The company has released Java, Python and ActionScript for Adobe Flash implementations of Hessian under an open source license (the Apache license). Third-party implementations in several other languages (C++, C#, JavaScript, Perl, PHP, Ruby, Objective-C, D, and Erlang) are also available as open-source. Adaptations Although Hessian is primarily intended for Web services, it can be adapted for TCP traffic by using the ''HessianInput'' and ''HessianOutput'' classes in Caucho's Java implementation. Implementations Cotton( Erlang) HessDroid( Android) Hessian (on Rubyforge)(Ruby) Hessian.js(JavaScript) Hessian4J(Java) HessianC#( C#) HessianCPP( ...

Codehaus XFire
Apache CXF is an open source software project developing a Web services framework. It originated as the combination of Celtix developed by IONA Technologies and Codehaus XFire, XFire developed by a team hosted at Codehaus in 2006. These two projects were combined at the Apache Software Foundation. The name "CXF" was derived by combining "''Celtix''" and "''XFire''". Description CXF is often used with Apache ServiceMix, Apache Camel and Apache ActiveMQ in service-oriented architecture (SOA) infrastructure projects. Apache CXF supports the Java programming interfaces JAX-WS, JAX-RS, JBI, JCA, JMX, JMS over SOAP, Spring, and the XML data binding frameworks JAXB, Aegis, Apache XMLBeans, SDO. CXF includes the following: *Web Services Standards Support: **SOAP **WS-Addressing **WS-Policy **WS-ReliableMessaging **WS-SecureConversation **WS-Security **WS-SecurityPolicy *JAX-WS API for Web service development **Java (software platform), Java-first support **Web Services Description Langu ...

Apache Axis
Apache Axis (Apache eXtensible Interaction System) is an open-source, XML based Web service framework. It consists of a Java and a C++ implementation of the SOAP server, and various utilities and APIs for generating and deploying Web service applications. Using Apache Axis, developers can create interoperable, distributed computing applications. Axis development takes place under the auspices of the Apache Software Foundation. Axis for Java When using the Java version of Axis there are two ways to expose Java code as Web service. The easiest one is to use Axis native JWS (Java Web Service) files. Another way is to use custom deployment. Custom deployment enables you to customize resources that should be exposed as Web services. See also Apache Axis2. JWS Web service creation JWS files contain Java class source code that should be exposed as Web service. The main difference between an ordinary java file and jws file is the file extension. Another difference is that jws files are ...

Web Browsers
A web browser is application software for accessing websites. When a User (computing), user requests a web page from a particular website, the browser retrieves its Computer file, files from a web server and then displays the page on the user's screen. Browsers are used on a range of devices, including desktop computer, desktops, laptops, tablet computer, tablets, and smartphones. In 2020, an estimated 4.9 billion people used a browser. The Usage share of web browsers, most used browser is Google Chrome, with a 65% global market share on all devices, followed by Safari (web browser), Safari with 18%. A web browser is not the same thing as a search engine, though the two are often confused. A search engine is a website that provides hyperlink, links to other websites. However, to connect to a website's server and display its web pages, a user must have a web browser installed. In some technical contexts, browsers are referred to as user agents. Function The purpose of a web br ...

UDDI
Web Services Discovery provides access to software systems over the Internet using standard protocols. In the most basic scenario there is a ''Web Service Provider'' that publishes a service and a ''Web Service Consumer'' that uses this service. Web Service Discovery is the process of finding suitable web services for a given task. Publishing a web service involves creating a software artifact and making it accessible to potential consumers. Web service providers augment a service endpoint interface with an interface description using the Web Services Description Language (WSDL) so that a consumer can use the service. Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration (UDDI) is an XML-based registry for business internet services. A provider can explicitly register a service with a ''Web Services Registry'' such as UDDI or publish additional documents intended to facilitate discovery such as Web Services Inspection Language (WSIL) documents. The service users or consumers can s ...

BSD License
BSD licenses are a family of permissive free software licenses, imposing minimal restrictions on the use and distribution of covered software. This is in contrast to copyleft licenses, which have share-alike requirements. The original BSD license was used for its namesake, the Berkeley Software Distribution (BSD), a Unix-like operating system. The original version has since been revised, and its descendants are referred to as modified BSD licenses. BSD is both a license and a class of license (generally referred to as BSD-like). The modified BSD license (in wide use today) is very similar to the license originally used for the BSD version of Unix. The BSD license is a simple license that merely requires that all code retain the BSD license notice if redistributed in source code format, or reproduce the notice if redistributed in binary format. The BSD license (unlike some other licenses e.g. GPL) does not require that source code be distributed at all. Terms In addition t ...

JSON-RPC
JSON-RPC is a remote procedure call protocol encoded in JSON. It is similar to the XML-RPC protocol, defining only a few data types and commands. JSON-RPC allows for notifications (data sent to the server that does not require a response) and for multiple calls to be sent to the server which may be answered asynchronously. History Usage JSON-RPC works by sending a request to a server implementing this protocol. The client in that case is typically software intending to call a single method of a remote system. Multiple input parameters can be passed to the remote method as an array or object, whereas the method itself can return multiple output data as well. (This depends on the implemented version.) All transfer types are single objects, serialized using JSON. A request is a call to a specific method provided by a remote system. It can contain three members: * method - A String with the name of the method to be invoked. Method names that begin with "rpc." are reserved for rpc ...
