Xuxa Popstar is a 2000 Brazilian musical romantic comedy film directed by Paulo Sérgio de Almeida and Tizuka Yamasaki with screenplay by Vivian Perl and Wagner de Assis. The cast includes Xuxa Meneghel, Luigi Baricelli, Marcos Frota and Sílvia Pfeifer, as well as musical numbers with Os Travessos, KLB and Deborah Blando. Popstar was co-produced by Warner Bros. and was released theatrically on 15 December 2000. The feature was watched by approximately 2,394,326 viewers. Plot After a brilliant career abroad, an international top model named Nick (Xuxa Meneghel) returns to Brazil to find her Prince Charming, whom she met through an Internet chat. In the country, she becomes a successful businesswoman of fashion, but her competitor does everything to disrupt the girl. Tizuka Yamasaki
Tizuka Yamasaki (born May 12, 1949) is a Brazilian film director. Early life and work Born in Porto Alegre, at the age of 2, Tizuka moved back with her Japanese immigrants parents to the city of Atibaia, in the state of São Paulo. In her teenage years, Yamasaki moved to São Paulo city for an undergraduate course in architecture, though she changed her mind before her admission and moved to Brasília to study cinema instead. Yamasaki finished college in Rio de Janeiro, where she started her professional career. Yamasaki was one of the first women filmmakers in Brazil who achieved a successful and longstanding career. She and her peers learned filmmaking by working on the sets of well-established Cinema Novo directors. Yamasaki worked as director assistant with Nelson Pereira dos Santos and Glauber Rocha. The two brothers (third and fourth of eight siblings), Leandro (born Luiz José da Costa, August 15, 1961–June 23, 1998) and Leonardo (Emival Eterno da Costa, born July 25, 1963), were from Goianápolis. Thiago Ribeiro Lacerda (born 19 January 1978) is a Brazilian actor. Biography Lacerda spent his childhood between Rio de Janeiro, where he was born, and Recreio, a mining town where his grandparents lived. ''Planeta Xuxa'' ( en, Planet Xuxa, italic=yes) was a Brazilian television program directed by Marlene Mattos and hosted by Xuxa Meneghel. It was aired by TV Globo from 5 April 1997 to 28 July 2002. Aimed at the family and teenagers, it was initially broadcasting on Saturday afternoons. As of 19 April 1998, the TV show was aired on Sundays due to the transmissions of the 1998 World Cup, remaining on Sundays until its final broadcast in 2002.
