Xnoybis
"Xnoybis" is a song by the industrial metal band Godflesh, taken from the album '' Selfless'' (1994). It was released in 1995 through Earache Records as a CD, and was also distributed as a promotional to radio stations. The song Godflesh frontman Justin Broadrick explained that "Xnoybis" is a song about spiritual transcendence, and that much of the rest of the album carries that theme. Musically, the song features a pummeling drum machine loop and a simple, harmonics-based guitar riff that repeats throughout. Uncharacteristically for Godflesh, the song also has piano in it. "Xnoybis" was one of AllMusic critic Ned Raggett's favourite songs off of ''Selfless''. While the psychofuckdub of "Xnoybis" also appears on the "Crush My Soul" single, and the original version appears on the album ''Selfless'', the clubdub and edit versions are unique to this release. Selfless (album)
''Selfless'' is the third studio album by British industrial metal band Godflesh. It was released on 26 September 1994 in Europe and on 18 October 1994 through Earache and Columbia Records. Being the band's major-label debut, the record features a more conventional and rock-oriented sound compared to Godflesh's previous releases. It spawned two singles, " Xnoybis" and " Crush My Soul". The music video for the latter was directed by photographer Andres Serrano. At the 2018 Roadburn Festival, ''Selfless'' was performed live in its near entirety for the first time. "Go Spread Your Wings", the album's 23-minute closing track, was substituted with "Messiah" and "Merciless", two songs recorded in the same sessions as ''Selfless''. The single's two remixes were also included on the ''Selfless/Merciless'' compilation released on Earache Records in 1996. Mothra (song)
"Mothra" is a song by the English industrial metal band Godflesh. It was taken from their 1992 album ''Pure'' and saw release as a radio promo and music video in the same year. The track's title is derived from 1961 Japanese film of the same name by Ishirō Honda. Musically, "Mothra" is a grinding, mechanical song with shouted vocals and heavily distorted instruments. Composition "Mothra", the second track on 1992's ''Pure'', is a weighty industrial metal song. Ned Raggett of AllMusic described the track as "surprisingly commercial for the band" and highlighted its "memorable main riff and drumming" as pleasingly listenable; he selected the song as one of his favourites from ''Pure''. Joseph Schafer of ''Decibel'' agreed with Raggett, considering "Mothra" one of Godflesh frontman Justin Broadrick's most accessible songs, but added that "it still sounds like getting crushed by a ton of lead". Godflesh
Godflesh are an English industrial metal band from Birmingham. The group formed in 1982 under the title Fall of Because but did not release any complete music until 1988 when Justin Broadrick (guitar, vocals and programming) and G. C. Green ( bass) renamed the band and decided to use a drum machine for percussion. Melding heavy metal with industrial music and later with electronic music and dub, Godflesh's sound is widely regarded as a foundational influence on other industrial metal and post-metal acts and as significant to both experimental and extreme metal. The band signed to Earache Records in the late 1980s and released their debut album '' Streetcleaner'' (1989) to contemporary and lasting acclaim. Vlado Meller
Vlado Meller is a Slovak audio mastering engineer, currently with Vlado Meller Mastering in Charleston, South Carolina. Meller works across many genres of music, with credits on rock, hip-hop, pop, jazz, metal, dance, opera, Broadway, and classical albums over 50+ year career. Albums that he engineered have won two Grammy Awards. Biography Meller was born in the former Czechoslovakia and received violin lessons at an early age. He graduated from high school in Košice, Slovakia and studied electrical engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague. After the Soviet Union invaded Czechoslovakia in 1968, Meller was a refugee in Austria and Italy before emigrating to the United States. In December 1969 he obtained an entry-level job at CBS Records in New York, and later received training in audio mastering. Bob Ludwig
Robert C. Ludwig (born c. 1945) is an American mastering engineer. He has mastered recordings on all the major recording formats for all the major record labels, and on projects by more than 1,300 artists including Led Zeppelin, Lou Reed, Queen, Jimi Hendrix, Bryan Ferry, Paul McCartney, Nirvana, Bruce Springsteen and Daft Punk resulting in over 3,000 credits. He is the recipient of numerous Grammy and TEC Awards. Sampling (music)
In sound and music, sampling is the reuse of a portion (or sample) of a sound recording in another recording. Samples may comprise elements such as rhythm, melody, speech, sounds or entire bars of music, and may be layered, equalized, sped up or slowed down, repitched, looped, or otherwise manipulated. They are usually integrated using hardware ( samplers) or software such as digital audio workstations. A process similar to sampling originated in the 1940s with '' musique concrète'', experimental music created by splicing and looping tape. The mid-20th century saw the introduction of keyboard instruments that played sounds recorded on tape, such as the Mellotron. The term ''sampling'' was coined in the late 1970s by the creators of the Fairlight CMI, a synthesizer with the ability to record and play back short sounds. Industrial metal is the fusion of heavy metal and industrial music, typically employing repeating metal guitar riffs, sampling, synthesizer or sequencer lines, and distorted vocals.
