The Xingu-Rio HVDC transmission line is a 2543.4 km long 800 kV high-voltage direct current transmission line in Brazil between the Xingu substation at the city of Anapu in the Pará state, 17 km from the Belo Monte Dam, and the Terminal Rio substation at the city of Paracambi in the Rio de Janeiro state. A high-voltage direct current (HVDC) electric power transmission system (also called a power superhighway or an electrical superhighway) uses direct current (DC) for electric power transmission, in contrast with the more common alternating current (AC) transmission systems. Belo Monte Dam
The Belo Monte Dam (''formerly known as'' Kararaô) is a hydroelectric dam complex on the northern part of the Xingu River in the state of Pará, Brazil.
