Xindian District
Xindian District () is an inner city district in the southern part of New Taipei City, Taiwan. Name Xindian's name originated during the Qing Dynasty close to 300 years ago. According to legend, a person named Lin and others came from Quanzhou, Fujian Province. On a mountain road leading to Wulai, they built a small cabin and opened a store selling groceries for the exchange of goods with mountain aborigines. Since the store had no formal name, travelers called it ''Sintiam'' (). An area usually not considered as part of Xindian is ''Ankeng'' (), although it is within the jurisdiction of the district, located in a valley on the west side of the Xindian Creek. It was originally called ''Amkhe'ar'' (), due to luxurious vegetation in the area. However, it was later decided to be indecent and the name was changed to ''Ankeng'' (). Xindian River
The Xindian River (or Xindian Creek) () is a river in northern Taiwan. It flows through New Taipei and the capital Taipei for . Overview The Xindian River is one of the three major tributaries into the Tamsui River. Its main tributary is the Beishi River which originates in Shuangxi District, New Taipei City at an elevation of . The Feitsui Dam spans the Beishi southeast of Taipei. It flows west past Xindian before merging with the Nanshi River; it is at this point that it becomes "Xindian River". It then turns north and merges with the Jingmei River, before finally merging with the Dahan River and feeding into the Tamsui River. The river is one of the main sources for drinking water in Taipei City. According to the Taipei City Running Water Center, over 4 million Taipei residents obtain 97% of their drinking water from the river. Xindian culture () was a Bronze Age culture in the Gansu and Qinghai provinces of China. Xindian culture is dated ca. 1500–1000 BCE, a radiocarbon testing of an artefact produced a date around 1000 BCE,''Cihai'' ("Sea of Words"), Shanghai cishu chubanshe, Shanghai 2002, , p. 1885 which roughly corresponds to the Western Zhou period of the Central Plain area (in the middle and lower course of the Yellow River). Geography The Xindian culture is named after a site discovered in 1923–24 in Xindian, Lintao County, Gansu. The culture was mainly located in Gansu in the middle and lower course of the Tao River and Daxia River, and in Qinghai in the basin of the Huangshui River. Xindian () is a town in Xiang'an District, Xiamen, Fujian, China. History In the lead up to the Battle of Kuningtou in 1949, PLA forces massed at Aotou (Ao-t'ou; ), Dadeng (Tateng) and Lianhe (Lienho; ) (then part of Nan'an County). In the Second Taiwan Strait Crisis in 1958, Lianhe was one of the areas from which PLA forces shelled Kinmen County, Republic of China (Taiwan). In 1959, Xindian Commune () was established. In January 1971, Dadeng, Xiaodeng and Liuhe were transferred from Nan'an to Tong'an County. In 1984, Xindian Commune became Xindian Township (). In 1987, Xindian Township became Xindian Town.
