Xiangguo Qiu
Xiangguo Qiu () is a Chinese Canadian virologist, former adjunct professor of Medical microbiology at the University of Manitoba and former head of the Vaccine Development and Antiviral Therapies section in the Special Pathogen Program of the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC). She is credited as one of the researchers who helped cure Ebola. Education and career Qiu earned a PhD in medicine from Tianjin Medical University in 1985 and an MS in Immunology from Hebei Medical University in 1990. Qiu moved to Canada in 1996 for graduate studies and in 2003 started working on antibody treatments at the Canadian National Microbiology Laboratory (NML) in Winnipeg. While working at the lab, Qiu and Gary Kobinger helped develop ZMapp, an experimental biopharmaceutical drug to treat Ebola. Canada–China relations, or Sino-Canadian relations, officially date back to 1942, when Canada sent an ambassador to China. Before then, Canada had been represented by the British ambassador. The Communist victory (1949) in the Chinese Civil War caused a break in relations that lasted until 1970, when Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau became one of the first Western leaders to recognize the People's Republic of China. Since 1997, Hong Kong has been an official part of China, and relations have been aggravated of late by the tensions between the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and the protestors in that city. The National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians (NSICOP; ; ) is a body composed of members of the House of Commons of Canada, House of Commons and Senate of Canada, Senate which reviews the activities of the Government of Canada's national security and intelligence agencies. Chen Wei (; born February 1966) is a Chinese epidemiologist and virologist specializing in biodefense, currently researcher and doctoral adviser at the Academy of Military Medical Sciences, and an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE). In September 2021, The Globe and Mail reported that Chen is also a major general in China's People's Liberation Army. Biography Chen was born in Lanxi County, Jinhua, Zhejiang in 1966.
