Xerxes DHC
XerxesDZB is a Dutch football club based in Rotterdam. History The club was founded in 1904 as RFC Xerxes and their first regional championship was won in 1907. After a second championship in 1911 the club was promoted to the second class (tweede klasse) of Dutch football. In 1931 Xerxes became champions of their district and were promoted to the first class (eerste klasse) where they faced teams like Feijenoord, Sparta, ADO, Ajax and Blauw Wit. While playing at the highest level of Dutch football Xerxes was easily able to remain in their division with players like Wim Lagendaal, and in later years Faas Wilkes and Coen Moulijn and play alongside the giant teams in the country, also during the first years of professional football in the country. However, after 1958 the results became worse and in 1960 Xerxes was forced relegated out of the professional football divisions. 2019–20 Eerste Klasse
The 2019–20 Eerste Klasse season was a season of the Eerste Klasse. Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic On 12 March 2020, all football leagues were suspended until 31 March as the Dutch government forbade events due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Netherlands. On 15 March this period was extended until 6 April. Due to the decision of the Dutch government to forbid all gatherings and events until 1 June 2020, this period was even further extended. Eventually, on 31 March 2020, the KNVB decided not to resume competitions at the amateur level. They also decided, for those competitions involved, there would be no final standings, and therefore no champions, initially no promotions and no relegations. All teams will start next season at the same level as they did this season. Sándor Popovics (footballer)
Sándor Popovics (22 June 1939 – 1 July 2019) was a Hungarian-Dutch association football manager and a professional footballer in the position of forward. Playing career Club As a footballer he played for Újpest Dózsa (1958–1960). When in 1960 he played a game in Austria, he defected from Soviet Union-oppressed Hungary. He continued his football career in Germany at SpVgg Fürth (1960–1963) and later moved to Holland to play for Sparta (1963–64), and FC Zaanstreek (1964–1966). Managerial career After retiring form playing, Popovics coached Dutch amateur clubs Quick (1970–1971), MVV '27 (1971–1972), RFC Rotterdam (1972–1974), Overmaas (1974-1976), Unitas (1976–1977), Xerxes (1977–1978) and Barendrecht (1978–1980). Kurt Linder
Kurt Linder (8 October 1933 – 12 December 2022) was a German professional football manager and player. He played for Young Boys, Rapid Wien, Rot-Weiss Essen and Lyon, among other teams. After his playing career, Linder became a professional manager in Switzerland with Lausanne-Sport and Young Boys, in Netherlands with XerxesDZB, PSV Eindhoven and Ajax, and in France with Marseille. As a player he won the league titles of Switzerland and Austria with Young Boys and Rapid Wien respectively, while as a manager Linder won the Swiss Cup and Swiss League Cup with Young Boys and the Eredivisie with Ajax in the 1981-82 season with 117 goals for and 42 goals against in 34 matches, with players like Keje Molenaar, Frank Rijkaard, Sonny Silooy, Gerald Vanenburg, Johan Cruijff, Soren Lerby, Tscheu La Ling, Wim Kieft, Jesper Olsen, Marco van Basten and John van 't Schip. Jiří Hanke (12 December 1924, Dolní Bučice – 11 December 2006, Lausanne), also known as Jorge Hanke or Georg Hanke, was a Czech footballer and later football manager, who played internationally for Czechoslovakia, earning five caps. Jan Bens (15 April 1921 – 12 May 2012) was a Dutch professional association football player and coach; he was also an amateur boxer and trainer. Football career Playing career Born in Rotterdam, Bens joined hometown club Feyenoord at the age of 12 and made his senior debut at the age of 17. In a match against Ajax on 6 December 1942, Bens became the first player ever to be sent off in De Klassieker, after punching Ajax goalkeeper Gerrit Keizer. He scored 25 goals in 76 first team games for Feyenoord. In 2007, he was the last surviving Feyenoord player from before World War II. He left Feyenoord for EBOH in 1947.
