Xander Marro
Xander Marro (born 1975) is an American artist, underground puppet maker, and arts non-profit director based in Providence, Rhode Island. Work She is a member of the Dirt Palace, a feminist art collective, where she makes movies, puppet shows, prints, and phone calls. She curated the long-running "Movies with Live Soundtracks" series and toured with "Bird Songs of the Bauharoque," a two-woman puppet operetta starring her alter-egos, Lady Longarms and Madame von Temper Tantrum, as well as the alter-ego of Becky Stark, who is Marro's other half in the band Lavender Diamond. Dirt Palace
The Dirt Palace is a feminist non-profit arts space founded in 2000. The Dirt Palace is located within a re-purposed library building in the Olneyville neighborhood of Providence, Rhode Island and includes living spaces, a wood shop, a print shop, practice spaces, studio spaces and a zine library. The collective's gallery space, The Storefront Window gallery, features work by residents and guest artists. Founding Members still involved with the project include Xander Marro and Pippi Zornoza. Becky Stark
Becky Stark is an American artist, singer, songwriter and entertainer from Los Angeles, California. She is the voice of the band Lavender Diamond. Music Stark participated in the new folk movement and the LA underground punk/noise scene. She has performed extensively as a solo artist and leader of the Lavender Diamond band. She appeared in the November 2007 '' Vanity Fair'' "Folk Music Heroes" portfolio by Annie Leibovitz on the page between Joni Mitchell and Judy Collins. In addition to her work with Lavender Diamond she sings with The Living Sisters, a folk trio with Eleni Mandell and Inara George from the Bird and the Bee. Lavender Diamond is an American, Los Angeles-based band, fronted by singer Becky Stark. History While living in Providence, Rhode Island, Stark began performing as Lavender Diamond in a play that she and puppeteer Xander Marro wrote, created and toured with called ''Birdsongs of the Bauharoque'' inspired by the work of artist Paul Laffoley. A self-produced CD of Stark's songs accompanied the tour in a hand-sewn, silkscreened sleeve. Lavender Diamond became a duo and eventually a four-piece band after Stark relocated to Los Angeles. With the help of local patrons Brian Kaneda and Josh Scuteri, Lavender Diamond self-released a four-song EP and performed at L.A.'s ArthurFest, at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, and at the CMJ New Music Seminar in New York City. Pippi Anne Zornoza (born 1978) is an American interdisciplinary artist working in visual art, performance art, and music, and co-founder of the Providence, Rhode Island, Providence-based artist collective Dirt Palace and Hive Archive.
