Xabi Aburruzaga
Xabi Aburruzaga (born 1978 in Portugalete, Euskadi, Spain) is a Basque musician and composer, who is a master of the Trikitixa, the diatonic accordion. Biography Xabi Aburruzaga (Portugalete, 1978) is a Biscayan Trikitilari who began studying music when he was seven years old and began playing the Accordion and Piano a year later. His first teacher was Rufino Arrola. Aburruzaga has won multiple awards playing his instrument and has published several books and records. Own works In 1999 he released his first album, receiving critical acclaim. The following year he received the proposal for the song "Karmelo Ikastola". As he became more well known, he launched his Trikitixa's school: Trikileku. At first they were only students from the area but today there are students from all over the province of Bizkaia (Biscay). Portugalete
Portugalete is a town lying to the west of Bilbao in the province of Biscay in the Autonomous Community of Basque Country, northern Spain. The town has 45,766 inhabitants (2019 census) and is part of Bilbao's metropolitan area. It is located at the mouth of the Estuary of Bilbao, on the left bank. Trikitixa
The trikiti (standard Basque, pronounced ) trikitixa ( dialectal Basque, pronounced ), or eskusoinu txiki ("little hand-sound", pronounced )) is a two-row Basque diatonic button accordion with right-hand rows keyed a fifth apart and twelve unisonoric bass buttons. The onomatopoeia ''trikitixa'', apparently stemming from the sound emitted by the tambourine, originally referred to a traditional Basque ensemble, made up of the instrument which now bears the name as well as alboka, txistu and other instruments. Probably introduced by Italian immigrants coming from the Alps, the trikitixa's first written evidence is attested late in the 19th century, exactly in 1889, when diatonic accordion was used for music in a popular pilgrimage festivity of Urkiola (Biscay). Bermeo
Bermeo is a town and municipality in the ''comarca'' of Busturialdea. It is in the province of Biscay, which is part of the autonomous region of the Basque Country in northern Spain. With a population of 16,765, it is the most important fishing port in the Basque Country. The town was founded in 1236, and is the largest in Busturialdea. Ibilaldia
Ibilaldia ( eu, Ibilaldia), meaning ''trip, journey, or march'' in English language, English, is a festival organized every year the last Sunday of May or first of June to help the ikastolak (schools in the Basque language) in Biscay, Basque Country (autonomous community), Basque Country in Spain. Ibilaldia is essentially a volunteer walk around a circuit of 5-10 kilometers, that is surrounded by food stands and entertainment, and walkers sometimes make the walk in support of an organization. Kirmen Uribe
Kirmen Uribe (pronounced ; born October 5, 1970) is a Basque language writer. He won the National Prize for Literature in Spain in 2009 for his first novel ''Bilbao-New York-Bilbao,'' which has been translated into over 15 languages. His poetry collection ''Meanwhile Take My Hand'' (Graywolf, 2007), translated into English by Elizabeth Macklin, was a finalist for the 2008 PEN Award for Poetry in Translation.
