The XXI Corps was an Army Corps of the British Army during World War I. The Corps was formed in Palestine in August 1917 under the command of Lieutenant General Edward Bulfin.Woodward, p 100 It formed part of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force (EEF) and served in the Sinai and Palestine Campaign. XXI Corps was a corps of the Union Army during the American Civil War. It served as part of William S. Rosecrans's Army of the Cumberland and was in existence from January 9th to October 1863. After the Battle of Stone's River, General Rosecrans reorganized the "wings" of his army into three corps. The left wing, under Thomas L. Crittenden, became the XXI Corps. Taking part in the Tullahoma Campaign, the XXI Corps was heavily engaged at Chickamauga on September 19–20, 1863, where it was nearly destroyed. The XXI Mountain Corps was a German military formation in World War II. At the beginning of November 1944 the XXI Mountain Corps retreated from Albania to Podgorica in Montenegro. In mid-November they tried to break through Danilovgrad and Nikšić toward Sarajevo, but Yugoslav partisan forces supported by two British artillery batteries, code-named Floydforce, stopped them after ten days fighting.
