XVII Corps (German Empire)
The XVII Army Corps / XVII AK (german: XVII. Armee-Korps) was a corps level command of the German Army before and during World War I. As the German Army expanded in the latter part of the 19th century, the XVII Army Corps was set up on 1 April 1890 in Danzig as the ''Generalkommando'' (headquarters) for West Prussia. It took command of two divisions formed on the same date: 35th Division and 36th Division. It was assigned to the I Army Inspectorate, which became the 8th Army at the start of the First World War. XVII Corps served on the Eastern Front from the start of the war. It was still in existence at the end of the war in the 7th Army, ''Heeresgruppe Deutscher Kronprinz'' on the Western Front. Formation By a law of 27 January 1890, it was decided to separate the Province of West Prussia from the Province of East Prussia in military affairs. XVII Reserve Corps (German Empire)
The XVII Reserve Corps / XVII RK (german: XVII. Reserve-Korps) was a corps level command of the German Army in World War I. History The Corps was formed in October 1914 as the temporary Corps Graudenz or Corps Zastrow named for its commander General der Infanterie Ernst von Zastrow, military governor of Graudenz. On 21 July 1915 it was established as XVII Reserve Corps. The Corps was dissolved on 17 September 1917. The nucleus of the corps was troops collected at Graudenz Fortress. In mid-November 1914 it consisted of two divisions: Wernitz and Breugel with a strength of 26 battalions, 6 squadrons and 13 batteries. XVII Corps (India)
XVII Corps is the first mountain strike corps of India which has been built as a quick reaction force and as well as counter offensive force against China along LAC. Its headquarters are located at Panagarh in West Bengal under Eastern Command. It is also known as Brahmastra Corps. The two countries still have not resolved their disagreement about where exactly the border lies; specially over two regions – Aksai Chin and Arunachal Pradesh. XVII Corps (Italy)
The XVII Army Corps ( it, XVII Corpo d'Armata) was an army corps of the Royal Italian Army during World War II. History On 11 November 1938 the Armored Corps (Corpo d'Armata Corazzato) was created in Mantua, with the motorized divisions "Po", "Trento" and the I and II Armored Brigades. On 1 March 1941, the Armored Corps ( it, Corpo d'Armata Corazzato) was part of the reserve Army of the Po, renamed XVII Army Corps and transferred to Albania on 4 April, in anticipation of operations against Yugoslavia. It then participated in the invasion of Yugoslavia (6–18 April 1941), where it conquered Dubrovnik, Podgorica and Trebinje. After returning to Italy on 16 June 1941, the Corps assumed responsibility for the territorial defense of Lazio, from the borders of Tuscany to the mouth of the Garigliano river. XVII Corps (United Kingdom)
The British XVII Corps was a British infantry corps during the First World War. History British XVII Corps was formed in France in January 1916 under Lieutenant General Julian Byng. XVII Corps (Union Army)
XVII Corps was a corps of the Union Army during the American Civil War. It was organized December 18, 1862 as part of Ulysses S. Grant's Army of the Tennessee. It was most notably commanded by Maj. Gen. James B. McPherson and Maj. Gen. Francis P. Blair II, and served in the Western Theater. Creation In October 1862 the XIII Corps and XIV Corps were created in the Western Theater. At the time it was created the XIII Corps constituted the entire Army of the Tennessee under Ulysses S. Grant. Initially Grant subdivided the corps into the Right, Left and Center wings. Major General James B. McPherson led the Center of the XIII Corps. On December 18, 1862 the XIII Corps was officially divided.
