XHUAR-FM
XHUAR-FM (106.7 MHz) is a Rock En Español and News radio station licensed to Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, owned by IMER (Instituto Mexicano de la Radio), Mexico's public radio network. Like the Public Radio stations in the United States, IMER presents a variety of discussion and music programs. XHUAR-FM broadcasts three channels in HD. History XHUAR-FM signed on July 1, 1986 as "Estéreo Norte" with the remit of offering a Mexican alternative to the Americanized media of the area. By the early 1990s it was offering ballad music, which changed to rock in 1993. Meanwhile, speech programs diminished on XHUAR's broadcast day. The Instituto Mexicano de la Radio (English: "Mexican Radio Institute") is a Mexican public broadcaster, akin to National Public Radio in the US. It is also known as IMER. Ciudad Juárez ( ; ''Juarez City''. ) is the most populous city in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. It is commonly referred to as Juárez and was known as El Paso del Norte (''The Pass of the North'') until 1888. Rock en español () is a term used widely in the English-speaking world to refer to any kind of rock music featuring Spanish vocals. Compared to English-speaking bands, very few acts reached worldwide success or between Spanish-speaking countries due to a lack of promotion. HD Radio
HD Radio (HDR) is a trademark for an in-band on-channel (IBOC) digital radio broadcast technology. It generally simulcasts an existing analog radio station in digital format with less noise and with additional text information. HD Radio is used primarily by AM and FM radio stations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with a few implementations outside North America. The term "on channel" is a misnomer because the system actually broadcasts on the ordinarily unused channels adjacent to an existing radio station's allocation. This leaves the original analog signal intact, allowing enabled receivers to switch between digital and analog as required. In most FM implementations, from 96 to 128 kbps of capacity is available.
