XHKG-TDT
XHKG-TDT is a television station in Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico. XHKG broadcasts on virtual channel 4.1 (physical channel 36) and is currently an independent station. History XHKG signed on the air, initially on channel 10, on October 12, 1968. It was the first television station in Nayarit, signing on in time to provide television coverage of the 1968 Summer Olympics. The station, which later moved from channel 10 to 2, was owned by Roberto Mondragón González. Originally serving as a full-time repeater of Televisa national programming, it began broadcasting local programming in 1984. Roberto Mondragón and his son died in the 1985 Mexico City earthquake, while staying in the Hotel Regis; as a result, the concession was transferred to his wife, Lucía Pérez Medina. In 2016, XHKG was forced to move to virtual channel 4.1 as the result of channel 2 nationally being reserved for the Las Estrellas network. Tepic, Nayarit
Tepic () is the capital and largest city of the western Mexican state of Nayarit, as well as the seat of the Tepic Municipality. Located in the central part of the state, it stands at an altitude of above sea level, on the banks of the Río Mololoa and the Río Tepic, approximately north-west of Guadalajara, Jalisco. Nearby are the extinct Sangangüey volcano and its crater lake. Tepic is the primary urban center of this rich agricultural region; major crops include sugarcane, tobacco and citrus fruits. The Federal Telecommunications Institute ( Spanish: ''Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones''; abbreviated as IFT and incorrectly referred to as IFETEL) is an independent government agency of Mexico charged with the regulation of telecommunications and broadcasting services. The 1968 Summer Olympics ( es, Juegos Olímpicos de Verano de 1968), officially known as the Games of the XIX Olympiad ( es, Juegos de la XIX Olimpiada) and commonly known as Mexico 1968 ( es, México 1968), were an international multi-sport event held from 12 to 27 October 1968 in Mexico City, Mexico. These were the first Olympic Games to be staged in Latin America and the first to be staged in a Spanish-speaking country. They were also the first Games to use an all-weather (smooth) track for track and field events instead of the traditional cinder track, as well as the first example of the Olympics exclusively using electronic timekeeping equipment. 1985 Mexico City Earthquake
The 1985 Mexico City earthquake struck in the early morning of 19 September at 07:17:50 (CST) with a moment magnitude of 8.0 and a maximal Mercalli intensity of IX (''Violent''). The event caused serious damage to the Greater Mexico City area and the deaths of at least 5,000 people. The sequence of events included a foreshock of magnitude 5.2 that occurred the prior May, the main shock on 19 September, and two large aftershocks. The first of these occurred on 20 September with a magnitude of 7.5 and the second occurred seven months later on 30 April 1986 with a magnitude of 7.0. They were located off the coast along the Middle America Trench, more than away, but the city suffered major damage due to its large magnitude and the ancient lake bed that Mexico City sits on. Las Estrellas ("The Stars"; previously El Canal de las Estrellas, or "The Channel of the Stars") is one of the cornerstone networks of TelevisaUnivision, with affiliate stations all over Mexico, flagshipped at XEW-TDT in Mexico City. Many of the programs of ''Las Estrellas'' are seen in the United States on Univision, UniMás, and Galavisión. History Las Estrellas originated from XEW-TV, which began broadcasting on 21 March 1951. Foro (English: "Forum"), is a broadcast news television channel owned by TelevisaUnivision.
