XEYTM-AM
XEYTM-AM (1490 AM, "Radio Teocelo") is a radio station in Teocelo, Veracruz, Mexico. Formerly known as XEYT-AM, the station is Mexico's oldest community radio station, a title it shares with XHFCE-FM in Huayacocotla. History The history of XEYT/XEYTM is the longest of any community radio station in Mexico. The permit was issued to the Centro de Promoción Social y Cultural, A.C. in 1965, and the station signed on with a power of 250 watts. Ceprososc held the station's permit until 1998. The station was small, with irregular transmissions of two to four hours a day and a narrow coverage area. By the late 1970s, the SCT was threatening to revoke XEYT's permit, which forced the station to seek support for its modernization. In 1980, Radio Teocelo signed an agreement with Fomento Cultural y Educativo, owners of what was then known as XEJN-OC, and underwent a series of significant upgrades in the decade that followed. Teocelo is a city in the Mexican state of Veracruz, located to 20 km from Jalapa-Enríquez on Federal Highway 180. It is bordered by: Ixhuacán, Xico, and Coatepec. The coffee of Teocelo is one of the best coffees produced in Mexico. Teocelo has a permanent program for recycling urban residues. XHFCE-FM (''Radio Huayacocotla: La Voz de los Campesinos'' – "The Voice of the Campesinos") is an indigenous community radio station based in Huayacocotla, a community of some 4000 inhabitants in the mountainous north of the Mexican state of Veracruz. It began broadcasting, with a permit on 2390 kHz, a short wave frequency, on August 15, 1965 as XEJN-OC ("OC" for ''onda corta''), using a 500 W transmitter. On February 14, 2005, the Secretariat of Communications and Transport (SCT) granted the station a legal permit after 27 years of negotiations, assigning it the call sign XHFCE-FM and an FM frequency of 105.5 MHz. Huayacocotla
Huayacocotla is a town ''(villa)'' in the Mexican state of Veracruz. Located in the state's Huasteca Baja region, it serves as the municipal seat for the surrounding municipality of the same name. In the 2005 INEGI Census, Huayacocotla reported a total population of 3,847. Name "Huayacocotla" comes from the Nahuatl elements ''hueyi'' (large) ''coautli'' (tree) and ''tla'' (particle of abundance). It therefore means "place of large trees".
