XERV-TDT, virtual channel 9 ( UHF digital channel 19), is a television station located in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, whose over-the-air signal also covers the Rio Grande Valley across the international border in the United States. The station is owned by Grupo Televisa, carrying its Las Estrellas network. The station broadcasts local programming and news centered on the Rio Grande Valley instead of Reynosa and Matamoros. Local programming included selected games (mainly Saturday games) of the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees ice hockey team. The games are announced in English, while the commercials during the game are in Spanish. McAllen is the largest city in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States, and the 22nd-most populous city in Texas. It is located at the southern tip of the state in the Rio Grande Valley, on the Mexico–United States border. The city limits extend south to the Rio Grande, across from the Mexican city of Reynosa. XHAB-TDT, virtual channel 8 ( UHF digital channel 30), is a Televisa television station licensed to Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. The channel can also be seen in Texas' Rio Grande Valley market. In addition to local news and programming, XHAB also airs a selection of Nu9ve's programming. XHAB also shares a sales office with XERV-TV in McAllen, Texas, for sales of commercial time from American businesses. XHAB returned channel 7 to the air in Matamoros upon signing on in 1968; the channel had been occupied by XELD-TV XELD-TV was a television station licensed to Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, broadcasting in English and Spanish for the Río Grande Valley region. The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees were a Tier II Junior A ice hockey team playing in the North American Hockey League. The team was based in the Rio Grande Valley in Hidalgo, Texas, just south of McAllen, and played their home games at State Farm Arena. History The original team was a member of the Central Hockey League, a professional minor league, from 2003 to 2012. On June 20, 2012, multiple sources confirmed that the Killer Bees would not play in the 2012–13 season and ceased operations due to increased travel costs after the folding of the other Texas CHL teams in Austin, Corpus Christi and Laredo.
