XC90
The Volvo XC90 is a mid-size luxury SUV manufactured and marketed by Volvo Cars since 2002 and now in its second generation. The first generation was introduced at the 2002 North American International Auto Show and used the Volvo P2 platform shared with the first generation Volvo S80 and other large Volvo cars. It was manufactured at Volvo's Torslandaverken. Volvo moved production equipment of the first generation to China and ended Swedish production at the end of 2014, renaming the car as the Volvo XC Classic (or Volvo XC90 Classic). At the end of 2014, the second generation XC90 was introduced. It is based on a new global platform, the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA). The Volvo P2 platform is a global full-size unibody automobile platform developed and produced by Volvo. It is designed for single wheelbases and is adaptable to front- or all wheel drive configurations. It was developed by the automaker before its 1999 acquisition by Ford Motor Company, and debuted with the 1998 Volvo S80. Volvo Scalable Product Architecture Platform
The Volvo Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform is a global, full-size, unibody automobile platform developed and manufactured by Volvo Cars. It debuted in 2014 when the second-generation Volvo XC90 was released. Work on the new in-house platform began in 2011 shortly after Volvo was acquired by Geely from Ford Motor Company. During development, particular emphasis was placed on achieving weight-reduction, design commonality, manufacturing rationalization, and hybridization opportunities. The new SPA platform replaced two prior vehicle architectures, the Volvo P2 platform and Volvo P3 platform. The B8444S is an automobile V8 engine developed by Yamaha Motor Corporation for Volvo Cars. It was built in Japan and based on Volvo designs. The Volvo Modular Engine is a family of straight-four, straight-five, and straight-six automobile piston engines that was produced by Volvo Cars in Skövde, Sweden from 1990 until 2016. All engines feature an aluminum engine block and aluminum cylinder head, forged steel connecting rods, aluminum pistons and double overhead camshafts. The Volvo EX90 is a battery electric mid-size luxury SUV manufactured and marketed by Volvo Cars. A three-row vehicle, it is Volvo's flagship SUV, replacing the XC90. The Torslanda Works (or ''Torslandaverken'' in Swedish), is one of the largest production facilities of Volvo Cars and is located in Torslanda on the island of Hisingen, about 12 km north west of Gothenburg city centre. The SI6 (Short Inline 6) is a family of straight-six engines developed by Volvo and used by Land Rover and Volvo. History Volvo designed the SI6 ("short inline 6") straight-6 automobile engine for use in 2007 models. An evolution of the company's long-used straight-5 Volvo Modular engine, which itself is an evolution of the Volvo B6304 straight six engine, the SI6 can be mounted transversely for front wheel drive or all wheel drive applications. The North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), also known as the Detroit Auto Show as of 2022 and prior to NAIAS, is an annual auto show held in Detroit, Michigan, U.S., at Huntington Place. A transverse engine is an engine mounted in a vehicle so that the engine's crankshaft axis is perpendicular to the direction of travel.
