Wākea
In the Hawaiian religion, Wākea, the Sky father weds Papahānaumoku, the earth mother. The two are considered the parent couple of the ruling chiefs of Hawaii. ''Wākea'' was the eldest son of Kahiko ("Ancient One"), who lived in Olalowaia. He is the ancestor of the ''aliʻi'' (nobility of Hawaii), the ruling class that make up the aristocracy known as the ''noho ali‘i o Hawai‘i'' (ruling chiefs of Hawai‘i). Wākea is the grandson of Welaahilaninui. The priests and common people come from his brothers, one of whom was called Makuʻu. Wākea means expansive space, zenith, or heaven and Papa means foundation or surface; together, they create a symbol of land and sky or heaven and earth. Papahānaumoku
In the religion and mythology of the ancient Hawaiians, Papahānaumoku (pronunciation: ɑːpɑːˈhɑːnaʊmoʊku — often simply called Papa — is a goddess and the Earth Mother. She is mentioned in the chants as the consort of the sky god Wākea. Their daughter is beautiful goddess Hoʻohokukalani, the main character of one myth. Hawaiian religion refers to the indigenous religious beliefs and practices of native Hawaiians, also known as the kapu system. Kahiko
Kahiko-Lua-Mea (better known simply as Kahiko) is a god in Hawaiian mythology, who was once a chief on the Earth and lived in Olalowaia. He is mentioned in the chant ''Kumulipo'' and in the ''Chant of Kūaliʻi''. Kahiko is also mentioned in The Legend of Waia. The legend is that there was a head figure that had the ability to speak. In Hawaiian mythology, Welaʻahilaninui (“Wela’ahilani the Great”) was a god or the first man, the forefather of Hawaiians. He is mentioned as an ancestor of Hawaiian chiefs in the ancient Hawaiian chant ''Kumulipo''. Etymology Wela’ahilaninui’s name can also be spelled as Wela-Ahi-Lani-Nui. Kaʻula Island, also called Kaʻula Rock, is a small, crescent-shaped island in the Hawaiian Islands. Mythology In the legend of Papa and Wākea, Kaula is the seventh-born child.
