Wyoming Library Association
The Wyoming Library Association (WLA) is a professional organization for Wyoming's librarians and library workers headquartered in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The idea of a state library association was first proposed by Agnes Snow, the chairman of the Wyoming State Federation of Women's Clubs’ Literacy and Library Extension Committee. The library association, originally called WSLA, held its first meeting on October 6, 1914, in Laramie and elected Dr. Grace Raymond Hebard, the University of Wyoming's first librarian, as president with Snow as vice president. Laramie, Wyoming
Laramie is a city in and the county seat of Albany County, Wyoming, United States. The population was estimated 32,711 in 2019, making it the third-largest city in Wyoming after Cheyenne and Casper. Located on the Laramie River in southeastern Wyoming, the city is north west of Cheyenne, at the junction of Interstate 80 and U.S. Route 287. Laramie was settled in the mid-19th century along the Union Pacific Railroad line, which crosses the Laramie River at Laramie. Cheyenne, Wyoming
Cheyenne ( or ) is the capital and most populous city of the U.S. state of Wyoming, as well as the county seat of Laramie County, with 65,132 residents, per the 2020 US Census. It is the principal city of the Cheyenne metropolitan statistical area which encompasses all of Laramie County and had 100,512 residents as of the 2020 census. Local residents named the town for the Cheyenne Native American people in 1867 when it was founded in the Dakota Territory. The American Library Association (ALA) is a nonprofit organization based in the United States that promotes libraries and library education internationally. It is the oldest and largest library association in the world, with 49,727 members as of 2021. A librarian is a person who works professionally in a library providing access to information, and sometimes social or technical programming, or instruction on information literacy to users.
