Wyoming Highway 135
Wyoming Highway 135 (WYO 135) is a north–south Wyoming State Road in Fremont County. Route description Wyoming Highway 135 begins its southern end at US Route 287/ Wyoming Highway 789 at Sweetwater Station northwest of Jeffrey City. Highway 135, named Sand Draw Road, travels north from Sweetwater Station towards the small oil community of Sand Draw. At 17 miles, approximately half-way through its route, Wyoming Highway 139 is intersected which acts as a spur into the community of Sand Draw. Past Sand Draw, WYO 135 heads now more north-northwest toward Riverton as it passes through the Wind River Basin. Nearing 34.5 miles, the western terminus of Wyoming Highway 136 (Gas Hills Road) is intersected which travels east towards the Gas Hills Mining District. Riverton, Wyoming
Riverton is a city in Fremont County, Wyoming, United States. The city's population was 10,682 at the 2020 census, making it the largest city in the county. History The city, founded in 1906, is an incorporated entity of the state of Wyoming. The community was named Riverton because of the four rivers that meet there. The town was built on land ceded from the Wind River Indian Reservation, a situation that often makes it subject to jurisdictional claims by the nearby Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho tribes. A legal ruling on November 7, 2017, by the 10th Circuit Court, ruled again in the EPA reservation boundary dispute. Though the decision was complex, the 10th Circuit Court answered plainly. Riverton is not on the reservation. The 10th Circuit's decision is now official and final after the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals 2017 ruling. Jeffrey City, Wyoming
Jeffrey City is a former uranium mining boomtown located in Fremont County, in the central part of the U.S. state of Wyoming. The town is known in Wyoming and the American West as symbol of a boomtown that went "bust" very quickly, as the mine was shut down in 1982 and over 95% of the inhabitants left the town within three years. The population was 58 at the 2010 census, far lower than its onetime population of several thousand people. For statistical purposes, the United States Census Bureau has defined Jeffrey City as a census-designated place (CDP). Wind River Basin
The Wind River Basin or Shoshone Basin is a semi-arid intermontane foreland basin in central Wyoming, United States. It is bounded by Laramide uplifts on all sides. On the west is the Wind River Range and on the North are the Absaroka Range and the Owl Creek Mountains. The Casper Arch separates the Wind River from the Powder River Basin to the east and the Sweetwater Uplift ( Granite Range) lies to the south. The basin contains a sequence of 10,000–12,000 feet (3000–3700 meters) of predominantly marine sediments deposited during the Paleozoic and Mesozoic Eras. During the Laramide over 18,000 feet (5500 meters) of Eocene lacustrine and fluvial sediments were deposited within the basin. Following the Eocene an additional 3,000 feet (900 meters) of sediments were deposited before, and as the basin was uplifted in the late Tertiary. Wyoming Highway 136 (WYO 136) is a long east–west Wyoming State Road in Fremont County, Wyoming, Fremont County. Route description Wyoming Highway 136, named Gas Hills Road, begins at Wyoming Highway 135 south of Riverton, Wyoming, Riverton. From there, Highway 136 travels east, crosses into the Wind River Indian Reservation and on into the Uranium mining in Wyoming#Gas Hills, Gas Hills Uranium Mining District.
