Wyndham School, Egremont was a secondary school in Cumbria. Trudy Harrison, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Copeland since winning the seat at the February 2017 by-election is a former pupil. Wyndham School Houses In the beginning Wyndham Secondary Modern had 4 houses - Scott, Grenfell, Mallory and Livingstone (named after explorers) When Wyndham became a comprehensive in 1964 there were 8 houses (named after the original head of houses) in 4 blocks plus a separate 6th Form block:- Udy, Sanderson, Birch, Wright, Tindall. Johnstone, Clark and Hughes. A Reception block for 1st years was added in 1968. Around the same time the 6th form also occupied the top floor of the science block. In 1978 8 became 4 named after local pits: Udy/Wright - Croft; Birch/Sanderson - Ehen; Tindall/Johnstone - Peel; Clark/Hughes - Falcon. Cumbria
Cumbria ( ) is a ceremonial and non-metropolitan county in North West England, bordering Scotland. Trudy Harrison
Trudy Lynne Harrison (born 19 April 1976) is a British Conservative Party politician who has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Copeland since the February 2017 by-election. It was the first time Copeland had elected a Conservative MP since 1931, and the first time the constituency had elected a female MP. Three months after her by-election victory, Harrison was re-elected in the 2017 general election and held her seat in 2019. In December 2019, Harrison was appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary to Prime Minister Boris Johnson. In September 2021, she was appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Transport; she was promoted to Minister of State in the same department in July 2022. Copeland is a constituency in Cumbria created in 1983 and represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament. The constituency is represented in Parliament by Trudy Harrison, of the Conservative Party, since a by-election in February 2017. It was retained at the snap 2017 general election four months later. The seat had been held by Labour candidates at elections between 1983 and 2015 included. There was a by-election in the British parliamentary constituency of Copeland on 23 February 2017 (the same day as the Stoke-on-Trent Central by-election), following the resignation of Labour Member of Parliament (MP) Jamie Reed. Conservative candidate Trudy Harrison gained the seat from Labour, the first gain for a governing party in a by-election since 1982. Result This was the first time since 1935 that Labour had failed to win the constituency or its predecessor, Whitehaven. Egremont, Cumbria
Egremont is a market town, civil parish and two Wards and electoral divisions of the United Kingdom, electoral wards in Cumbria, England, and Historic counties of England, historically part of Cumberland. It is situated just outside the Lake District National Park, south of Whitehaven and on the River Ehen. The town, which lies at the foot of Uldale Valley and Dent (fell), Dent Fell, has a long industrial heritage including dyeing, weaving and iron ore mining. It had a population of 7,444 in 2001, increasing to 8,194 at the 2011 Census. The town's layout today is much the same as at the time of Richard de Lucy around 1200 with its wide Main Street opening out into the market place.
