Wye Oak (band)
Wye Oak is an American indie rock duo from Baltimore, Maryland, United States, composed of Andy Stack (drums, keyboards, backup vocals) and Jenn Wasner (vocals, guitars and bass). Their sound has been described as "earnest folk-influenced indie rock with touches of noise and dream pop" as well as indie folk. Wasner sings lead vocals and plays electric or acoustic guitar, while Stack plays both drums and keyboards, playing the drums with his feet and right hand, and the bass line with his left hand. History The band was formed as Monarch in mid-2006, before changing their name to Wye Oak, a reference to the former state tree of their home state of Maryland. They released their first album, '' If Children'', independently in 2007 and subsequently signed to Merge Records in 2008. ''Pitchfork'' (formerly ''Pitchfork Media'') is an American online music publication (currently owned by Condé Nast) that was launched in 1995 by writer Ryan Schreiber as an independent music blog. Schreiber started Pitchfork while working at a record store in suburban Minneapolis, and the website earned a reputation for its extensive coverage of indie rock music. It has since expanded and covers all kinds of music, including pop. Pitchfork was sold to Condé Nast in 2015, although Schreiber remained its editor-in-chief until he left the website in 2019. ''The Louder I Call, the Faster It Runs'' is the sixth studio album by indie band Wye Oak. It was released digitally on April 6, 2018 by Merge Records in the United States. Music videos On the day of the album's release, Wye Oak debuted the music video for the album title track "The Louder I Call, The Faster it Runs". The video was filmed by Dan Huiting, edited by Daniel Murphy, and included styling by Dear Hearts. The music video features Wasner and Stack wandering White Sands National Monument in New Mexico with various editing techniques to make it appear Wasner and Stack have mirages of themselves following them. The physical album was officially released on August 5, 2016. ''Tween'' is unique in that all the songs were "written, scrapped, and re-purposed" by Wye Oak in between the years 2011 and 2014.
