Wormburner
Wormburner is an indie rock band based in Brooklyn, New York. Their music has been categorized as college rock. The band has five members, and is led by Steve "Hank" Henry, who is the band's singer, guitarist, and songwriter. Henry graduated from Colgate University in 1993. Their debut album, ''A Hero's Welcome'', was released in 2006 and produced by David Lowery of Cracker. The band wrote and recorded the album's 12 songs at Lowery's studio in Richmond, Virginia. These songs' power-pop sound, along with a series of live shows by the band, led to the band and album becoming increasingly popular. The band released its second album, ''Placed by the Gideons'', in 2010 on the label Wax Off, which is partly run by WSUM host DJ Renton. In 2012, the band was interviewed for MTV's series 120 Minutes. In November 2013, Wormburner opened for Violent Femmes at Roseland Ballroom in New York City. David Lowery (musician)
David Charles Lowery (born September 10, 1960) is an American guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, mathematician, and activist. He is the founder of alternative rock band Camper Van Beethoven and co-founder of the more-traditional rock band Cracker. Lowery released his first solo album, ''The Palace Guards'', on February 2, 2011, via the 429 Records label. Biography Personal life and music career Lowery was born in San Antonio, Texas, the son of a career Air Force father. He has described his parents as "a hillbilly and an English working-class woman." His family moved around a great deal during his youth before finally settling in Redlands, California, where he attended high school. College Rock
College rock was the alternative rock music played on student-run university and college campus radio stations located in the United States and Canada in the 1980s. The stations' playlists were often created by students who avoided the mainstream rock played on commercial radio stations. WSUM (91.7 MHz FM) is a student radio station in Madison, Wisconsin, affiliated with the University of Wisconsin–Madison. The station schedule consists of a wide range of music and talk programming serving the campus and Madison community. Violent Femmes are an American folk punk band from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The band consists of founding members Gordon Gano (guitar, lead vocals) and Brian Ritchie (bass, backing vocals), joined by multi-instrumentalist Blaise Garza (joined 2004), and drummer John Sparrow (joined 2005). Roseland Ballroom
The Roseland Ballroom was a multipurpose hall, in a converted ice skating rink, with a colorful ballroom dancing pedigree, in New York City's theater district, on West 52nd Street in Manhattan. The venue, according to its website, accommodated 3,200 standing (with an additional 300 upstairs), 2,500 for a dance party, between 1,300 and 1,500 in theatre style, 800–1,000 for a sit-down dinner, and 1,500 for a buffet and dancing.
