World Report (CBC)
''World Report'' is a Canadian radio news program, which airs weekdays at 5, 6, 7 and 8 AM, and Saturdays and Sundays at 6, 7, 8 and 9 AM, on CBC Radio One. It currently lasts 10 minutes and focuses on major national and international news, allowing the local and regional programming during those timeslots to primarily focus their content on their own regions. The program's current weekday anchor as of November 21, 2022 is Marcia Young, and the weekend anchor is John Northcott. The programme began in 1958 as ''The World at Eight'' and was called ''The World at Seven'', ''The World at Eight'' or ''The World at Nine'', depending on the hour and time zone in which it was heard, until October 1982 when it was renamed ''World Report''. David Common
David Common is a Canadian journalist, best known as a correspondent and anchor for CBC News, and cohost with Asha Tomlinson and Charlsie Agro of CBC Television's consumer affairs newsmagazine ''Marketplace''. He was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and grew up in Toronto, Ontario where he attended Jarvis Collegiate Institute and York University. He studied International Security Issues at Stockholm University in Sweden. Common has worked for CTV News and CBC News. He began with the CBC at the London bureau, moving later to Toronto, Fredericton, Regina and eventually back to Toronto as a national reporter before being posted to Paris, France in 2006. From France, he travelled extensively in western and eastern Europe and north Africa, shooting and editing his own stories. Sputnik 1
Sputnik 1 (; see § Etymology) was the first artificial Earth satellite. It was launched into an elliptical low Earth orbit by the Soviet Union on 4 October 1957 as part of the Soviet space program. It sent a radio signal back to Earth for three weeks before its three silver-zinc batteries ran out, and continued in orbit for three months until aerodynamic drag caused it to fall back into the atmosphere on 4 January 1958. It was a polished metal sphere in diameter with four external radio antennas to broadcast radio pulses. Its radio signal was easily detectable by amateur radio operators, and the 65° orbital inclination made its flight path cover virtually the entire inhabited Earth. The satellite's unanticipated success precipitated the American Sputnik crisis and triggered the Space Race, part of the Cold War. CBC Music (formerly known as CBC FM, CBC Stereo and CBC Radio 2) is a Canadian FM radio network operated by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. It used to concentrate on classical and jazz. Nil Köksal is a Turkey, Turkish-born Canadians, Canadian television and radio journalist, most recently the weekday anchor of ''World Report (CBC), World Report'' on CBC Radio One. In July 2022, she was announced as the new host of ''As It Happens'' beginning in September. Köksal has worked for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation since 2001, and has been a member of the ''CBC News: Morning'' team since November 2005. Peter Armstrong (journalist)
Peter Armstrong is a Canadian radio and television journalist, working with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. He is currently the economics reporter for CBC News, and was the host of the business news series '' On the Money'' (cancelled June 28, 2018) on CBC News Network. Originally from Oakville, Ontario, he is the son of journalist Sally Armstrong. He graduated from Acadia University and Université Laval before he began working for CBC Radio in Quebec City. He later moved to Saint John, Toronto, Ottawa and Vancouver before moving to the Middle East in 2006 as the CBC's bureau chief in Jerusalem.
