World Mountain Bike Orienteering Championships
The World Mountain Bike Orienteering Championships is the official event for awarding World Champion titles in mountain bike orienteering. The World Championships, also known as WMTBOC, were first held in 2002, and since 2004 they have been organized annually – except in 2020. The programme includes Long distance, Middle distance, Sprint, Mass Start (unofficial in 2016 and official from 2017), and a Relay for both men and women. International Orienteering Federation
The International Orienteering Federation (IOF) is the international governing body of the sport of orienteering. The IOF head office is located in Karlstad, Sweden. The IOF governs four orienteering disciplines: foot orienteering, mountain bike orienteering, ski orienteering, and trail orienteering. After the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the International Orienteering Federation suspended the membership of the Russian Orienteering Federation. The IOF also disallowed Russian orienteering athletes from participating in IOF events, even as neutral athletes, cancelled all organising rights for IOF events and activities in Russia, and suspended all Russian members appointed to IOF official bodies. Ruslan Gritsan (born 7 December 1978, in Moscow) is a Russian competitor and multiple world champion in both ski-orienteering and mountain bike orienteering. Ski orienteering career At the 1998 Junior World Ski Orienteering Championships Grislan won gold medals in both the classic distance and the short distance. He won a gold medal in the short distance at the 2005 World Ski Orienteering Championships in Levi, shared with Andrei Gruzdev. He won gold medals in the relay with the Russian team in 2002, 2004 and 2005. In 2002 the Russian team consisted of Andrei Gruzdev, Gristan, Viktor Korchagin and Eduard Khrennikov, and the team won gold ahead of Finland. Adrian Jackson (born 1983) is an Australian mountain bike orienteering competitor and World Champion. He has won individual gold medals at the 2004, 2008, 2009 and 2010 World MTB Orienteering Championships. Adrian is sponsored by Mérida and is a member of the Mérida Flight Centre Racing Team. He rides a Mérida NINETY-NINE (dual suspension), an Big.Nine (29er hardtail) and an Scultura EVO SLX Team (road bike). Mika Tervala
Mika Tervala is a Finnish mountain bike orienteering competitor, World Champion and European Champion. He won individual gold medals at the 2002, 2006 and 2007 World Championships, and a gold medal in the relay in 2004, 2005 and 2006. Mika coaches the Finnish national mountain bike orienteering teams since spring 2008. Early sports career Tervala started his sports career with biathlon. Falun
Falun () is a city and the seat of Falun Municipality in Dalarna County, Sweden, with 37,291 inhabitants in 2010. It is also the capital of Dalarna County. Falun forms, together with Borlänge, a metropolitan area with just over 100,000 inhabitants. Falun was originally famous for its copper mine, and is today an important service and industrial city even though the mine is closed (since 1992). Faluån is a river, flowing through the city, separating it into two sides. Falu copper mine is located on one of the sides which during many centuries was one of Sweden's main business.
