Professional wrestling in Japan has existed for many years. The first Japanese to involve himself in catch wrestling, the basis of traditional professional wrestling, was former sumo wrestler Sorakichi Matsuda. There were subsequent attempts before and after World War II to popularize the sport in Japan, but these generally failed until the advent of its first big star, Rikidōzan, in 1951, who became known as the "father" of the sport. is a Japanese professional wrestling promotion based in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Its name stands for Dramatic Dream Team, which was the promotion's official name from 1997 to 2004. The is a professional wrestling championship in the Japanese promotion DDT Pro-Wrestling. The title was established in 2006 and named after the festival held annually in Ōmori. There have been a total of eight reigns between eight different champions. The current champion is Soma Takao who is in his first reign. Title history In 2008, the title became inactive after Daichi Kakimoto retired. It was reactivated in 2009 in order for Danshoku Dino and Masa Takanashi to have a nonuple winner takes all match at the Ryōgoku Peter Pan event. was a Japanese professional wrestling event promoted by DDT Pro-Wrestling (DDT). The event took place on August 23, 2009, in Tokyo at the Ryōgoku Kokugikan. The event featured ten matches, four of which were contested for championships. The event was announced on December 28, 2008 at the Never Mind 2008 event and its name was revealed at a press conference on February 13, 2009. In prevision on the event, DDT broadcast their tour titled "Road to Ryōgoku" on Fighting TV Samurai. This was the first event held under the Peter Pan name.
