Workers' Party Of Korea Publishing House
The Workers' Party of Korea Publishing House (WPKPH, ) is the principal publishing house of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and one of the two main publishers in the country. It publishes magazines and books on politics, such as the works of Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il, posters and works of fiction. The current director-general and editor-in-chief is Ri Yong-chol. Organization The publishing house is under the control of the WPK's Propaganda and Agitation Department and is the party's most important publisher. It was founded in October 1945 in Pyongyang, where it is still based. It is one of the two main publishers in North Korea, the other one being the Foreign Languages Publishing House. ''Among the People'' is a live album by the Art Ensemble of Chicago originally released in 1981 as an LP on the Greek Praxis label, and reissued on CD as ''Live in Milano'' on the Golden Years of New Jazz label in 2001. North Korean Literature
Reading is a popular pastime in North Korea, where literacy and books enjoy a high cultural standing, elevated by the regime's efforts to disseminate propaganda as texts. Because of this, writers are held in high prestige. The partition of Korea following the Second World War led to a considerable cross-border movement, which included writers moving from North to South or from South to North. North Korea's subsequent literary tradition was shaped and controlled by the State. Kim Jong-il Bibliography
Kim Jong-il (16 February 1941/1942 – 17 December 2011) was the Supreme Leader of North Korea from 1994 to 2011. According to North Korean sources, Kim Jong-il published some 890 works during a period of his career from June 1964 to June 1994. According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the number of works from 1964 to 2001 was 550. In 2000, it was reported that the Workers' Party of Korea Publishing House has published at least 120 works by Kim. In 2009, KCNA put the numbers as follows: Two collections exist, the ''Selected Works of Kim Jong-il'' (김정일선집) and the ''Complete Collection of Kim Jong-il's Works'' (김정일전집). Both contain forged works that Kim never wrote, included to give readers the impression that he was working with ideologically formulating the ''Juche'' idea in his youth. Kim Il-sung (15 April 1912 – 8 July 1994) was the leader of North Korea for 46 years, from its establishment in 1948 until his death in 1994. According to North Korean sources, the works of Kim Il-sung amount to approximately 10,800 speeches, reports, books, treatises and other types of works. , about 60 of them are considered to be particularly important by outside observers. Kim Il-sung's works are published and republished in countless collections. These include the 100-volume ''Complete Works of Kim Il-sung'' (''chŏnjip(전집)''), the 50-volume ''Collected Works'' (''chŏjakchip(저작집)'') and the 15-volume ''Selected Works'' (''sŏnjip(선집)''). ''Reminiscences: With the Century'' () is the autobiography of Kim Il-sung, founder and former president of North Korea. The memoirs, written in 1992 and published in eight volumes, retell Kim's life story through his childhood to the time of Korean resistance. Initially, a total of 30 volumes were planned but Kim Il-sung died in 1994 after just six volumes; the seventh and eight volumes were published posthumously. The work reveals early influences of religious and literary ideas on Kim's thinking. ''Reminiscences of the Anti-Japanese Guerillas'' is a collection of memoirs of North Korean guerillas fighting during the 1930s and 1940s in Manchuria against the Japanese. It was used as a textbook for indoctrination until it was effectively replaced by another piece of guerilla literature, Kim Il-sung's autobiography ''With the Century'', in the 1990s. The memoirs were written in order to portray Kim Il-sung as a national liberator, and to strengthen his cult of personality. However, the memoirs are still used as a textbook in ideological workplace study sessions, as well as in other forms of indoctrination.
