Kim Il-sung Bibliography
Kim Il-sung (15 April 1912 – 8 July 1994) was the leader of North Korea for 46 years, from its establishment in 1948 until his death in 1994. According to North Korean sources, the works of Kim Il-sung amount to approximately 10,800 speeches, reports, books, treatises and other types of works. , about 60 of them are considered to be particularly important by outside observers. Kim Il-sung's works are published and republished in countless collections. These include the 100-volume ''Complete Works of Kim Il-sung'' (''chŏnjip(전집)''), the 50-volume ''Collected Works'' (''chŏjakchip(저작집)'') and the 15-volume ''Selected Works'' (''sŏnjip(선집)''). In North Korea, his works are published by the Workers' Party of Korea Publishing House, but front organizations in Japan publish unofficial Korean-language editions as well. Grand People's Study House
The Grand People's Study House is the central library located in the North Korean capital, Pyongyang. The building is situated on Kim Il-sung Square by the banks of the Taedong River. Features The Study House was constructed in a Korean architecture, traditional Korean style in April 1982 over a period of 21 months to celebrate leader Kim Il-sung's 70th Day of the Sun, birthday. Kim Il-sung's Cult Of Personality
The North Korean cult of personality surrounding its ruling family, the Kim family, has existed in North Korea for decades and can be found in many examples of North Korean culture. Although not acknowledged by the North Korean government, many defectors and Western visitors state there are often stiff penalties for those who criticize or do not show "proper" respect for Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il, officially referred to as " eternal leaders of Korea". The personality cult began soon after Kim Il-sung took power in 1948, and was greatly expanded after his death in 1994. Kapsan Faction Incident
The Kapsan Faction Incident was an unsuccessful attempt to undermine the power of Kim Il-sung, the leader of North Korea, around the year 1967. The "Kapsan faction" was a group of veterans of the anti-Japanese struggle of the 1930s and 1940s that was initially close to Kim Il-sung. In the wake of the 2nd Conference of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) in 1966, the faction sought to introduce economic reforms, challenge Kim Il-sung's cult of personality, and appoint its ringleader Pak Kum-chol as his successor. Kim Il-sung cracked down on the faction in a series of speeches made at party meetings. He called for a "monolithic ideological system" that centered on his personality and rallied party members against the Kapsan faction. By April 1967, the factionalists had disappeared from the public. They were expelled from the party and sent to the countryside or prison.
