Woolworth is a ghost town located in rural northeast Lincoln County, Mississippi, United States. Woolworth never incorporated, and never had a post office. Woolworth had a train depot, and a 48-car rail siding. Decline With the rise of automobiles, roads were built which bypassed Woolworth. The town's sawmill closed, and the train stopped running. The only visible remains of Woolworth are the old general store and the old blacksmith shop, both next to the train tracks on the east side of the road. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau. Mississippi Central Railroad (reporting mark MSCI) is a short line railroad operating over 51 miles from Oxford, Mississippi, to Grand Junction, Tennessee, owned by Pioneer Railcorp. The railroad's principal commodities are wood products and fertilizer. The MSCI offers connections to the BNSF Railway in Holly Springs and Norfolk Southern Railway in Grand Junction. In 2013 the Mississippi Central purchased the Redmont Railway. In 2015 the Mississippi Central purchased the Tishomingo Railroad near Iuka, Mississippi. Brookhaven, Mississippi
Brookhaven is a small city in Lincoln County, Mississippi, United States, south of the state capital of Jackson. The population was 12,520 at the 2010 U.S. Census. It is the county seat of Lincoln County. It was named after the town of Brookhaven, New York, by founder Samuel Jayne in 1818. History Brookhaven is located in what was formerly territory of the Choctaw. The city was founded in 1818 by Samuel Jayne from New York, who named it after the town of Brookhaven on Long Island. Most of the Choctaw were forced out of Mississippi in the 1830s under Indian Removal, and were given lesser land in Indian Territory. The railroad was constructed through Brookhaven in 1858. It connected Brookhaven with New Orleans to the south and Memphis to the north. Silver Creek is a town in Lawrence County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 210 at the 2010 census. Silver Creek is accessed from U.S. Route 84 and Mississippi Highway 43. The film ''Jesse James' Women'' (1954) was filmed in Silver Creek. History The area was settled around 1820 by the Kirby, Neal, Longino, Price and Williams families. Originally named "The Hall", it was changed in 1893 to Silver Creek for a nearby stream. A depot was established in Silver Creek when the Pearl & Leaf Rivers Railroad (later Illinois Central Railroad) was completed in 1903.
