Woody Cornwell
Woody Cornwell (1968-2016) was an American Abstract painter and co-founder of Eyedrum Art & Music Gallery in Atlanta during the late 1990s. Eyedrum, in that era, was instrumental in expanding the alternative art scene in Atlanta. He received a Bachelor degree from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) graduating Magna Cum Laude and a Master's degree in Fine Arts from Georgia State University. In 1997, Woody with a group of friends co-founded Eyedrum Art & Music GallaryYoung, B. (2015). State of the Arts. Arts Georgia. Vol.3; Ed.1, pg.5 in Atlanta where he curated art exhibits and mentored young artists in the city. Abstract Painter
Abstract art uses visual language of shape, form, color and line to create a composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world. Western art had been, from the Renaissance up to the middle of the 19th century, underpinned by the logic of perspective and an attempt to reproduce an illusion of visible reality. By the end of the 19th century many artists felt a need to create a new kind of art which would encompass the fundamental changes taking place in technology, science and philosophy. The sources from which individual artists drew their theoretical arguments were diverse, and reflected the social and intellectual preoccupations in all areas of Western culture at that time. Eyedrum Art & Music Gallery is a non-profit art space and venue in Atlanta, Georgia, founded by American painter Woody Cornwell and musician and journalist Marshall Avett in 1998, and focused on contemporary art and experimental music ranging from contemporary chamber music and sound sculpture to drone noise music and art rock. Until January 1, 2011, the organization was located in the Old Fourth Ward district, and had three art gallery spaces and one space for music and performance. Fine Arts
In European academic traditions, fine art is developed primarily for aesthetics or creative expression, distinguishing it from decorative art or applied art, which also has to serve some practical function, such as pottery or most metalwork. The Atlanta College of Art (ACA) was a private four-year art college located in Atlanta, Georgia. The Savannah College of Art and Design Atlanta Bees (or SCAD Atlanta Bees) are the athletic teams that represent the Atlanta campus of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD Atlanta), located in Atlanta, Georgia, in intercollegiate sports as a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), primarily competing in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) since the 2012–13 academic year; after spending two seasons as an NAIA Independent within the Association of Independent Institutions (AII) from 2010–11 (when the school began intercollegiate athletics and joined the NAIA) to 2011–12.
