Woodpark, Ottawa
Woodpark is a small neighbourhood in Bay Ward, in the west end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is bounded in the north by Richmond Road, to the East by Woodroffe Avenue north, in the South by Carling Avenue and in the west by the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway. The total population of the neighbourhood according to the Canada 2016 Census was 2,191.Population calculated by adding Dissemination areas 35061174, 35061175, 35061179, 35061181, 35061180 and subtracting Census Block 35061180016 It is largely residential with commercial only on Carling Avenue and a small portion of Woodroffe. There is only one small park, New Orchard Park, within its boundaries, but both the Parkway and part of the Byron Strip are adjacent to it. It has no schools and one church. Bay Ward
Bay Ward or Ward 7 (French: ''Quartier Baie'') is a municipal ward in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada represented on Ottawa City Council. It covers much of the western portion of the old city of Ottawa as well as some portions of what was once Nepean. The ward runs from Sherbourne and Maitland in the east to March Road in the west. The southern border is the Queensway while the northern border is the Ottawa River. The ward makes up the northern portion of the federal and provincial riding of Ottawa West-Nepean. The ward contains a number of neighbourhoods, with quite diverse populations. Some of the neighbourhoods in the ward are Bayshore, Woodroffe North, Michele Heights, Glabar Park, Lincoln Heights, Britannia, and Crystal Beach. Jim Watson (Canadian Politician)
James Alexander Watson (born July 30, 1961) is a Canadian politician who served as the 59th mayor of Ottawa from 2010 to 2022. Previously, he served as an Ottawa city councillor from 1991 to 1997, and as mayor from 1997 to 2000. Watson subsequently represented the riding of Ottawa West—Nepean in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 2003 to 2010. He served in the Cabinet of Premier Dalton McGuinty in the portfolios of Consumer and Business Services (2003–2005), Health Promotion (2005–2007), and Municipal Affairs and Housing (2007–2010). He resigned in January 2010 to run for mayor in the 2010 Ottawa municipal election. He was re-elected mayor in 2014 and in 2018. Britannia is a group of neighbourhoods in Bay Ward in the west end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is located on the Ottawa River across from Aylmer, Quebec, adjacent to its namesake, Britannia Bay, north of Richmond Road, west of the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway and east of Boyce Avenue. The total population of this area was 6,692 as of the 2016 census. The area constituted a municipal ward from 1973 to 1994 ( Britannia Ward). The area has a mix of low and high income housing. The lower income areas of the area are closer to Richmond Road in the south, and the more affluent areas are located in the community of Britannia Village in the north, which includes the Britannia Yacht Club at the north end of Britannia Road. Lincoln Heights (also known as Lincoln Heights - Parkway) is a neighbourhood in the Britannia area of Bay Ward in the west end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is defined by its community association as being bounded to the south by the north side of Regina Lane (now Starflower Lane), to the north by the Ottawa River, to the west by the east side of Croydon Avenue, and to the east by the Ottawa River Parkway (now Sir John A. Queensway Terrace North
Queensway Terrace North (QTN) is a neighbourhood in Bay Ward in the west end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Its neighbourhood association is bounded to the north by Carling Avenue, to the west by Pinecrest Road, to the south by the Queensway ( Highway 417), and to the east by the Transitway. These boundaries include the adjacent neighbourhood of Britannia Heights. History A few people first settled in the neighbourhood in the late 1800s closer to Britannia. Most of the homes, however, were built in the 1950s and early 1960s. In 1956 the Campeau Corporation acquired 114 acres of the Arkell farm on Pinecrest Road. Whitehaven (also spelled White Haven) is a neighbourhood located in Bay Ward in the west end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, about 10 kilometres west of downtown. It is bounded by Carling Avenue to the north, Woodroffe Avenue to the east, the OC Transpo Transitway to the west and highway 417 to the south. Glabar Park
Glabar Park is a neighbourhood in Bay Ward, in the west end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is bounded on the west by Woodroffe Avenue north by Carling Avenue, south by The Queensway and on the east by Maitland Avenue. The population at the 2011 census was about 2,806. Most of the neighbourhood was built in the 1950s. The first part of the neighbourhood was built in 1950 in the area around Hare Avenue (surrounding the eponymous Glabar Park) by the F. J. Shouldice Construction Company and sold by the Brownlee & McKeown Realtors. Further development in the neighbourhood was done by Teron Construction and subdivided by J. P. Chenier Ltd. Carlingwood
Carlingwood is a neighbourhood in Bay Ward in the west end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The neighbourhood is roughly bounded on the north by Richmond Road, on the east by Sherbourne Road, on the south by Carling Avenue and on the west by Woodroffe Avenue. This area corresponds to census tract 5050032.01, which had a population of 3,558 according to the Canada 2016 Census. The Carlingwood Shopping Centre was built in 1956 at the corner of Carling and Woodroffe. The surrounding neighbourhood would be built later in the decade. Somserset Towers and the Saville Apartments (then known as Saville Terrace) were built in the early 1960s, and Bromley Square was built in the early 1970s. Woodroffe North
Woodroffe North (also known as just Woodroffe) is a neighbourhood in Bay Ward in the west end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is bounded on the south by Richmond Road on the west by the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway, on the north by the Ottawa River and on the east by the northern prolongation of Sherbourne Avenue. Woodroffe North has also been referred to as a community within the neighbourhood of Westboro (also known as Westboro Village) which claims its western border to be Woodroffe Avenue. The Woodroffe North Community includes residents that live on streets West of Woodroffe Avenue. Originally the homes used to be cottages similar to those in Britannia. Carlingwood Shopping Centre
Carlingwood Shopping Centre is shopping mall located in the Carlingwood neighbourhood of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The mall opened in 1956 and was one of the city's first major shopping centres. Since January 2021, it has been operated by Strathallen Property Management. Description Carlingwood Shopping Centre contains 100 stores and services on a single enclosed level. The interior hallways are laid out in a rectangle, with secondary branching halls from six entrances. Offices and services, including the management office, are located on a trim second level in the northwest corner of the building.
