Welwyn Garden City
Welwyn Garden City ( ) is a town in Hertfordshire, England, north of London. It was the second garden city in England (founded 1920) and one of the first new towns (designated 1948). It is unique in being both a garden city and a new town and exemplifies the physical, social and cultural planning ideals of the periods in which it was built. History Welwyn Garden City was founded by Sir Ebenezer Howard in 1920 following his previous experiment in Letchworth Garden City. Howard had called for the creation of planned towns that were to combine the benefits of the city and the countryside and to avoid the disadvantages of both. It was designed to be 'The Perfect Town'. Richie Woodhall
Richie Woodhall (born 17 April 1968) is a British former professional boxer who competed from 1990 to 2000. He held the WBC super-middleweight title from 1998 to 1999, as well as the Commonwealth middleweight title from 1992 to 1995, and the European middleweight title from 1995 to 1996. As an amateur, Woodhall won a gold medal at the 1990 Commonwealth Games and bronze at the 1988 Summer Olympics, both in the light-middleweight division. Following his retirement from the sport, Woodhall has developed a broadcasting career with both the BBC and BT Sport as a sports pundit, on both television and radio. He currently co-commentates with Mike Costello on radio for some shows, while co-commentating with John Rawling on Setanta Sports at other times. He was also involved with the 2012 Olympics held in London, commentating on the fights alongside Jim Neilly and coaching the Olympic boxing squad. Norrie Woodhall
Norrie Woodhall (née Bugler, 18 December 1905 – 25 October 2011) was an English actress who was the last surviving member of the Hardy Players, an amateur theatrical group based in Dorchester, Dorset, that formed in 1908 to perform dramatisations of the works of novelist Thomas Hardy. Norrie joined the Hardy Players when she was 16, and acted in two plays. In 1924, when her older sister, Gertrude Bugler, played the title role in ''Tess of the D’Urbervilles'', young Norrie played Tess’s younger sister, Liza-Lu. As she later recounted, Liza-Lu was a non-speaking part, so Hardy wrote a line for her to say in the play. The Hardy Players disbanded in 1928, shortly after Hardy's death. The Hardy Players reformed in 2005, at Norrie’s request and she returned to the stage at the age of 100. George Woodhall
George "Spry" Woodhall (5 September 1863 – 29 September 1924) was an English footballer, who played most of his career with West Bromwich Albion, helping them to reach three consecutive FA Cup finals, including winning the cup in 1888. Woodhall was born in West Bromwich and, after playing for West Bromwich All Saints and Churchfield Foresters, joined West Bromwich Albion in May 1883. He was a member of the West Bromwich team that reached the 1886 and 1887 cup finals, going out 2–0 to Blackburn Rovers (in a replay) and Aston Villa respectively. In 1888, West Bromwich reached the final for the third consecutive year, when they met favourites, Preston North End at the Kennington Oval on 24 March 1888. Dale Woodhall
Dale William Edward Woodhall (born 11 March 1961) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Although he had only just turned 23 when he started playing for Collingwood, Woodhall was already a three time Queensland Australian Football League leading goal-kicker. His 85 goals in his debut QAFL season in 1977 saw him finish second behind Owen Backwell but he topped the league's tables with 81 goals in 1979, 92 goals in 1982 and 113 goals in 1983. He joined Collingwood in 1982, having previously being signed by South Melbourne back in 1978 only to remain in Brisbane. Wood Hall, also known as Milton Hall and Oak Hall, is a historic home located at Callaghan, Alleghany County, Virginia. It was built in 1874, and is a double-pile, two-story, brick house on a stuccoed brick foundation in the Gothic Revival style. Woodhall Spa Golf Club is a private golf club in England, that is located to the north of Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire. The club was founded in 1891. In 1995 the club was purchased by the English Golf Union, who have since relocated their headquarters onto the site, which is now known as The National Golf Centre. Woodhall Spa has two golf courses. The original course, now known as ‘The Hotchkin’, which opened in 1905 and was originally laid out by Harry Vardon before being redesigned by Stafford Vere Hotchkin in the 1920s, and ‘The Bracken’, designed by Donald Steel which opened in 1998. Woodhall Spa is a former spa Village and civil parish in Lincolnshire, England, on the southern edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds, south-west of Horncastle, west of Skegness, east-south-east of Lincoln and north-west of Boston. It is noted for its mineral springs, cinema and its Second World War association with the RAF 617 Squadron. The cinema has the last remaining rear screen projector in the country. Woodhall or Old Woodhall, is a small village located about south west of Horncastle, Lincolnshire, England. Woodhall, along with Woodhall Spa, was created a civil parish in 1889 comprising portions of Langton, Woodhall, Thimbleby, and Thornton. In 1894 Woodhall and Woodhall Spa were separated, forming two civil parishes, the boundary between them being the Reeds Beck Road. Woodhall is now part of the civil parish of Stixwould and Woodhall . The church of Saint Margaret was built in the 14th century and may have once been part of the moated manorial complex of Woodhall Hall. The church declared redundant by the Diocese of Lincoln in 1971, and was demolished in 1972. There is a medieval moated site which represents the site of Woodhall Hall, which is an ancient scheduled monument.
