Wooden Stars
Wooden Stars are a Canadian indie rock band formed in 1994. The band, from Ottawa, consists of vocalist and guitarist Julien Beillard, guitarist Michael Feuerstack, bassists Josh Latour and Mathieu Beillard, and drummer Andrew McCormack. Style The band, who describe their music as "a fusion of unlikely influences ranging from XTC and The Clash to Georges Brassens and James Blood Ulmer", released four albums between 1995 and 1999. History ''Rise Up & Get Down'' was released in 1998 on 12" vinyl by Rhythm of Sickness Records. In 1999, the Wooden Stars collaborated with singer-songwriter Julie Doiron on the album ''Julie Doiron and the Wooden Stars'', which won a Juno Award for Juno Award for Alternative Album of the Year, Best Alternative Album. Following that album, the band members concentrated on other projects, although the group never formally disbanded. Juno Award For Alternative Album Of The Year
The Juno Award for Alternative Album of the Year is presented annually at Canada's Juno Awards to honour the best album of the year in the alternative rock and/or indie rock genres. The award was first presented in 1995 under the name Best Alternative Album, and adopted its current name in 2003. Achievements Arcade Fire and July Talk have won the award three times to date, while Broken Social Scene and Rufus Wainwright have won the award twice each. In addition to Broken Social Scene's wins as a band, three members have also won the award for separate projects — Emily Haines and James Shaw have also won the award twice with their band Metric, and Leslie Feist has won for a solo album. CLARK the band was a Canadian indie rock band operating out of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. History The band was formed in Ottawa in 1999 by John Tielli who sang, played guitar and composed. Initially named simply "Clark", the group began using the name "CLARK the band" to differentiate themselves from other similarly named bands. The group's roster changed throughout its existence; Tielli was the only consistent member. Islands is a Canadian indie rock band from Montreal, Quebec. The group was founded in 2005 by Nicholas Thorburn and Jamie Thompson, shortly after the breakup of The Unicorns, of which both were members. Their current lineup includes Thorburn, often known by his stage name Nick Diamonds, along with brothers Evan Gordon and Geordie Gordon, and Adam Halferty. Bell Orchestre
Bell Orchestre is a six-piece instrumental band from Montreal. It was formed in 1999 by multi-instrumentalist Richard Parry and violinist Sarah Neufeld. Both also joined Arcade Fire. They were joined in Bell Orchestre by Michael Feuerstack (steel guitar), Stefan Schneider (drums/percussion), Pietro Amato (French horn/electronics), and Kaveh Nabatian (trumpet/melodica). (Parry remains with Arcade Fire as well as Bell Orchestre; Neufeld left Arcade Fire. Amato is a member of the Luyas and Torngat, and a and part-time member of Arcade Fire.
