Wonju () is the most populous city in Gangwon Province, South Korea. The city is located approximately east of Seoul. Wonju was the site of three crucial battles during the Korean War. Geography Wonju sits at the southwestern corner of Gangwon Province, bordering Gyeonggi Province to the west and North Chungcheong Province to the south. Within Gangwon, Wonju borders Yeongwol County to the east and Hoengseong County to the north. Unlike much of Gangwon Province, Wonju is not a mountainous area, but rather a basin along the wide plain created by the Seom River. The Korea Meteorological Administration () (KMA) is the national meteorological service of the Republic of Korea. The service started in 1904 joining the WMO in 1956. Köppen Climate Classification
The Köppen climate classification is one of the most widely used climate classification systems. It was first published by German-Russian climatologist Wladimir Köppen (1846–1940) in 1884, with several later modifications by Köppen, notably in 1918 and 1936. Kyungdong University is a private University in northeastern South Korea. It has three campuses - metropol in Yangju City, medical in Wonju City and global in Goseong and Sokcho cities. About 245 instructors are employed. The current president is Seong-yong Chun (전성용). Sangji University (상지대학교) is a private university located in Wonju, Gangwon Province, South Korea. Established in 1955, it has seven colleges and six graduate schools. Its top areas of study are Oriental Medicine (one of only 11 in the country) and Tourism. The Sangji Foundation also manages Sangji Yeongseo College and Sangji Girls Middle and High Schools. Wonju Airport
Wonju Airport is an airport in Hoengseong County, Gangwon Province, South Korea, Gangwon province, South Korea . During the Korean War it was designated K-46 (Hoengseong Air Base) by the United States Air Force. In 2011, 70,943 passengers used the airport, which is mainly for military use. Only one parking position is large enough for a Boeing 737 Next Generation, Boeing 737-900. The airport has a daily scheduled flight two times, currently operated by Jin Air to Jeju. Because Wonju Airport is sharing with military, taking photograph or video of apron, runway and military facility is strictly prohibited.
