Women's Western Amateur
The Women's Western Amateur is an amateur golf tournament for women. It is organized by the Women's Western Golf Association, which also organized the Women's Western Open from 1930 to 1967. It is one of the oldest women's amateur tournaments in the United States, having been played since 1901. Like many other amateur tournaments, it uses a stroke play qualifier to determine the final match play field. Golf
Golf is a club-and-ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course in as few strokes as possible. Golf, unlike most ball games, cannot and does not use a standardized playing area, and coping with the varied terrains encountered on different courses is a key part of the game. Courses typically have either 18 or 9 ''holes'', regions of terrain that each contain a ''cup'', the hole that receives the ball. Each hole on a course contains a teeing ground to start from, and a putting green containing the cup. Cristie Kerr
Cristie Kerr (born October 12, 1977) is an American professional golfer who plays on the LPGA Tour. She has 20 wins on the LPGA Tour, including two major championships, and over $19 million in career earnings. Kerr was the number one-ranked golfer in the Women's World Golf Rankings for three time periods in 2010. She is naturally left handed but plays golf right handed. Amateur career Kerr was born in Miami, Florida, and started playing golf at the age of eight. She had a successful amateur career, winning the 1994 Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship and the 1995 Women's Western Amateur. Grace Park (born 6 March 1979) is a retired South Korean professional golfer on the LPGA Tour. She was a member of the LPGA Tour from 2000 until her retirement in 2012 and won six LPGA Tour events, including one major championship, during her career. Amateur career Park was born Park Ji-eun (Korean: 박지은) in Seoul, South Korea. She moved to Hawaii at the age of 12, and then to Arizona. She received the 1996 Dial Award as top female high-school scholar-athlete in the United States. She attended Arizona State University and graduated from Ewha Womans University in 2003. Meredith Duncan
Meredith Duncan (born March 25, 1980) is an American professional golfer. Duncan was born in Shreveport, Louisiana. She won the Women's Western Amateur in 2000 and 2001. She won the 2001 North and South Women's Amateur at Pinehurst. She followed this up by capturing that year's U.S. Women's Amateur in a match that the USGA says "veteran observers called the greatest final in the history of the United States Golf Association championships". She also played on the U.S. team at the 2002 Curtis Cup. Duncan graduated from Louisiana State University in 2003 with a degree in kinesiology having turned professional in 2002. Janice Olivencia (born September 16, 1982 in Caguas, Puerto Rico) is a professional golfer.
