Women's Indoor Hockey World Cup
The Women's Indoor Hockey World Cup is an international indoor field hockey competition organised by the International Hockey Federation (FIH). The tournament was first held in 2003 and it is held every four years. Format Twelve qualified teams will be divided into two pools. The top two in their pool qualified for the first to fourth classification, while third and fourth qualified for fifth to eighth classification, the last two teams will play for last four placing. Qualification Qualification is set by the governing body, the International Hockey Federation. The qualified teams include the host country, continental champions and the most recent World Cup final ranking. 2003 Women's Indoor Hockey World Cup
The 2003 Women's Indoor Hockey World Cup was the inaugural edition of the women's indoor hockey tournament. The event was held from 5–9 February in Leipzig, Germany. Germany won the title for the first time after defeating the Netherlands 5–2 in the final. France finished in third place, defeating the Czech Republic 3–1 in the third place playoff. The 2018 Women's Indoor Hockey World Cup was the fifth edition of this tournament and played from 7 to 11 February 2018 in Berlin, Germany. The 2022 Women's Indoor Hockey World Cup would have been the sixth edition of this tournament and scheduled to be played from 3 to 7 February 2021 in Liège, Belgium. It was originally scheduled for February 2021, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament was cancelled on 10 January 2022, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Qualification Twelve teams qualified to participate in the tournament. Australia and New Zealand withdrew from the tournament due to the travel restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic and were replaced by Canada and South Africa. A penalty shootout is a method used in field hockey to decide which team progresses to the next stage of a tournament (or wins the tournament) following a tied game. Two methods have been used: the original penalty stroke competition is a best-of-five penalty strokes with sudden death if scores were level after five strokes.
