Windsor Casting
Windsor Casting Plant was an iron foundry owned by Ford Motor Company in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The plant opened November 9, 1934 and was located next to the Windsor Engine Plant in downtown Windsor. It was known to area residents as "the foundry". Internally, it was called WCP. Operations ceased on May 29, 2007 as part of Ford's "The Way Forward" plan. During its time in operation, it was one of Canada's largest recyclers. It recycled any kind of scrap metal with iron in it. In 1998, the foundry used the scrap metal from the demolition of neighbouring Windsor Engine #1 to cast 175,000 engine blocks. Although being considered an outdated facility, WCP was frequently awarded with many quality and environmental awards. Ford Windsor Engine
The Ford small-block (aka Windsor V8) is a series of 90° overhead valve small block V8 automobile engines manufactured by the Ford Motor Company from July 1961 to December 2000. Designed as a successor to the Ford Y-block engine, it was first installed in the 1962 model year Ford Fairlane and Mercury Meteor. Originally produced with a displacement of , it eventually increased to , but was most commonly sold (from 1968-2000) with a displacement of 302 cu in (later marketed as 5.0 L). This engine was installed in several of the company's most famous products, notably the Mustang, as well as the Mercury Cougar, Ford Torino, Ford Granada, Mercury Monarch, Ford LTD, Mercury Marquis and Ford F-150 pickup. List Of Ford Factories
The following is a list of current, former, and confirmed future facilities of Ford Motor Company for manufacturing automobiles and other components. Per regulations, the factory is encoded into each vehicle's VIN as character 11 for North American models, and character 8 for European models. The River Rouge Complex manufactured most of the components of Ford vehicles, starting with the Model T. Much of the production was devoted to compiling "knock-down kits" that were then shipped in wooden crates to Branch Assembly locations across the United States by railroad and assembled locally, using local supplies as necessary. A few of the original Branch Assembly locations still remain while most have been repurposed or have been demolished and the land reused. Knock-down kits were also shipped internationally until the River Rouge approach was duplicated in Europe and Asia.
