William Sankey
General William Sankey (died 16 November 1892) was a British Army officer who served as colonel of the King's Own Royal Regiment (Lancaster). Military career Sankey was commissioned as an ensign in the British Army in 1844. He saw action as Deputy Assistant Quartermaster General and then as Assistant Quartermaster General at the Battle of Alma in September 1854, the Battle of Balaclava in October 1854 and the Siege of Sevastopol in Winter 1854 during the Crimean War. He was made Colonel of the 9th Regiment of Foot in 1862. He became General Officer Commanding the Sialkot District in India in May 1873 and General Officer Commanding the Presidency District in January 1874. William Wilby
Major-General William Wilby CB (c.1820 - 15 December 1893) was the General Officer Commanding, Ceylon. Military career Wilby was commissioned as an ensign in the British Army on 27 May 1836. He saw action in the Crimean War and commanded the right wing of his regiment at Gujarat and Sindh during the Indian Rebellion in 1857. He was present at the Battle of Aroghee and at the Battle of Magdala in April 1868 during the British Expedition to Abyssinia and went on to be General Officer Commanding, Ceylon from 1879 to 1882. Studholme John Hodgson
General Studholme John Hodgson (c. 1803 – 30 August 1890) was the General Officer Commanding, Ceylon. Military career Hodgson was born in Ipswich and baptised on 5 May 1803. He was the son of General John Hodgson and his wife, Catherine Krempion. His younger brother, John Studholme Hodgson (1805-1870) was a major general in the Bengal Army. Hodgson was commissioned as an ensign in the British Army on 30 December 1819. He first served in the 50th Regiment of Foot before being transferred to the 45th Regiment of Foot on 3 August 1820. He was promoted to lieutenant and transferred to the 83rd Regiment of Foot on 3 February 1825 to take the place of an officer who had died. On 30 December 1826 he purchased the rank of captain. He was taken off half-pay on 14 November 1827 and transferred to the 39th Regiment of Foot; he was transferred again to the 19th Regiment of Foot on 21 September 1830. The King's Own Royal Regiment (Lancaster) was a line infantry regiment of the British Army. The Bengal Presidency, officially the Presidency of Fort William and later Bengal Province, was a subdivision of the British Empire in India.
