William Russell (English Actor)
William Russell Enoch (born 19 November 1924) is an English actor. He achieved prominence in 1956 when he took the title role in the ITV television series '' The Adventures of Sir Lancelot'' (1956–1957). In 1963, he became part of the original lead cast of BBC1's ''Doctor Who'', playing the role of schoolteacher Ian Chesterton opposite William Hartnell from the show's first episode until 1965. Russell's film roles include parts in '' The Man Who Never Was'' (1956), '' The Great Escape'' (1963) and ''Superman'' (1978). On television, he notably appeared as Ted Sullivan in ''Coronation Street'' in 1992. In recent years, Russell has maintained his association with ''Doctor Who''; he returned to the show in 2022, making a cameo appearance as Chesterton in "The Power of the Doctor", 57 years after the character's last television appearance. Wolverhampton Grammar School is a co-educational independent school in Wolverhampton, England. History Initially a grammar school for boys, WGS was founded in 1512 by Sir Stephen Jenyns, a master of the ancient guild of Merchant Taylors, who was also Lord Mayor of London in the year of Henry VIII's coronation. Jenyns was born in the city of Wolverhampton circa 1448. In 1875, the school moved to its present site on the Compton Road from its previous site on John Street in the centre of Wolverhampton. The second season of British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who'' was originally broadcast on BBC1 between 1964 and 1965. The season began on 31 October 1964 with ''Planet of Giants'' and ended with ''The Time Meddler'' on 24 July 1965. Like the first season, production was overseen by the BBC's first female producer Verity Lambert. Maureen O'Brien
Maureen O'Brien (born 29 June 1943) is an English actress and author best known for playing the role of Vicki in the BBC science fiction television series '' Doctor Who'', although she has appeared in many other television programmes. Early life O'Brien was born in Liverpool. She attended Notre Dame School in that city, as well as the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. Career She played the part of Vicki in 38 episodes of ''Doctor Who'' from 2 January to 6 November 1965, starring alongside the original Doctor, William Hartnell. Barbara Wright is a fictional character in the British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who'' and a companion of the First Doctor. First Doctor
The First Doctor is an incarnation of the Doctor, the protagonist of the BBC science fiction television series '' Doctor Who''. He was portrayed by actor William Hartnell. Within the series' narrative, the Doctor is a centuries-old alien Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey who travels in time and space in the TARDIS, frequently with companions. At the end of life, the Doctor regenerates; as a result, the physical appearance and personality of the Doctor changes. The concept of regeneration, initially referred to as a "renewal," was introduced when Hartnell needed to leave the series, due to his increasingly bad health, and consequently has extended the life of the show for many years.
