William P. Gray
William Percival Gray (March 26, 1912 – February 10, 1992) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Central District of California. Education and career Born in Los Angeles, California, Gray received an Artium Baccalaureus degree from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1934 and a Bachelor of Laws from Harvard Law School in 1939. He was a law clerk to Judge Harold Montelle Stephens of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit from 1939 to 1940, and was in private practice in Los Angeles from 1940 to 1941. He served in the United States Army during World War II, from 1941 to 1945, achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel. After the war, he returned to private practice in Los Angeles from 1945 to 1966, also serving as a special assistant to the United States Attorney General from 1958 to 1964. Senior Status
Senior status is a form of semi-retirement for United States federal judges. To qualify, a judge in the Federal judiciary of the United States, federal court system must be at least 65 years old, and the sum of the judge's age and years of service as a federal judge must be at least 80 years. As long as senior judges carry at least a 25 percent caseload or meet other criteria for activity, they remain entitled to maintain a staffed office and chambers, including a secretary and their normal complement of law clerks, and they continue to receive annual cost-of-living increases. Senior judges vacate their seats on the bench, and the President of the United States, president may appoint new full-time judges to fill those seats. Some U.S. states have similar systems for senior judges. Bradley Lorison Gates (born March 27, 1939) is an American law enforcement official that served as the 11th Sheriff-Coroner of Orange County, California from 1975 until 1999. Early life Bradley Lorison Gates was born on March 27, 1939, in Orange, California. He was the third of four children in his family.
