William McKinley Presidential Library And Museum
The William McKinley Presidential Library and Museum is the presidential library of 25th U.S. president William McKinley. The library, which is located at the foot of the McKinley National Memorial, is owned and operated by the Stark County Historical Society, and located in Canton, Ohio, where McKinley built his career as lawyer, prosecuting attorney, congressman, governor and president. The museum contains the largest collection of McKinley artifacts in the world and chronicles the life and career of the 25th president, from his birth to his death at the hands of an assassin. Another exhibit also explores the construction of the Memorial and the unfortunate fate of the McKinley’s Canton home, destroyed by fire in 1937. Canton () is a city in and the county seat of Stark County, Ohio. It is located approximately south of Cleveland and south of Akron in Northeast Ohio. First Ladies National Historic Site is a United States National Historic Site located in Canton, Ohio. During her residency in Washington, D.C. Mary Regula, wife of Ohio congressman Ralph Regula, spoke regularly about the nation's first ladies. Recognizing the paucity of research materials available she created a board to raise funds and for a historian to assemble a comprehensive bibliography on American first ladies. McKinley Birthplace Home And Research Center
The McKinley Birthplace Home and Research Center is a reconstruction of a home on the site of the birth of America's twenty-fifth President, William McKinley, in Niles, Ohio. History Original structure President William McKinley was born in a small wood plank sided home in Niles on January 29, 1843. The original two-story eight-room house had a total of approximately , and was moved twice before it was destroyed by fire in 1937. Rebuilding efforts In 1994, a local bank donated the former McKinley Bank Building that stood on the site of the birthplace to the city of Niles. By 1999, with $83,000 secured from the state of Ohio, the McKinley Bank Building was demolished, leading the way for construction of a replica McKinley birthplace. William McKinley, the 25th president of the United States, was shot on the grounds of the Pan-American Exposition at the Temple of Music in Buffalo, New York, on September 6, 1901, six months into his second term.
