William M. Donnelly
William M. Donnelly (1885 – January 30, 1946) was a politician from the U.S. state of Michigan. Donnelly, of Detroit, Michigan, was an unsuccessful Democratic candidate from Michigan's 1st congressional district in a contest for a seat in the U.S. House in three consecutive elections. He lost all three to Republican Robert H. Clancy in 1926, 1928 and 1930 for the 70th, 71st and 72nd Congresses. He was a member of the Michigan Democratic State Central Committee and a delegate to Democratic National Convention from Michigan in 1928 and 1944. Michigan's 1st congressional district is a United States congressional district containing the entire Upper Peninsula of Michigan and 16 counties of Northern Michigan in the Lower Peninsula. The district is currently represented by Republican Jack Bergman. Geography The district is the second-largest congressional district east of the Mississippi River by land area, only behind Maine's 2nd congressional district. The Michigan Democratic Party is the affiliate of the Democratic Party in the state of Michigan. It is based in Lansing. Lavora Barnes is the party's current chair. She was previously the party's Chief Operating Officer. The party currently controls half of Michigan's U.S. House seats, both U.S. Senate seats, and all statewide offices, holding the offices of governor, secretary of state, and attorney general.
