William Henry Rattigan
Sir William Henry Rattigan, KC (4 September 1842 – 4 July 1904) was a British judge and Liberal Unionist MP for North East Lanarkshire. Background and education Rattigan was born in Delhi, India, in September 1842, the son of Bartholomew Rattigan, of Athy, Co. Kildare. He was educated at the High School, Agra, and King's College London, and was admitted to bar as a member of Lincoln's Inn in 1873. He later received a doctorate (LL.D) from the University of Göttingen. Legal and political career Most of his legal career took place in India. He served as judge in the Chief Court of the Punjab on four occasions, was knighted in 1895, took silk in 1897 and practiced in the High court of the North Western Provinces. He was also an additional member of the supreme legislative council of India 1892–93, and member of the Punjab legislative council 1898–99. King's Counsel
In the United Kingdom and in some Commonwealth countries, a King's Counsel ( post-nominal initials KC) during the reign of a king, or Queen's Counsel (post-nominal initials QC) during the reign of a queen, is a lawyer (usually a barrister or advocate) who is typically a senior trial lawyer. Technically appointed by the monarch of the country to be one of 'His erMajesty's Counsel learned in the law', the position originated in England and Wales. Some Commonwealth countries have either abolished the position, or renamed it so as to remove monarchical connotations, for example, 'Senior counsel' or 'Senior Advocate'. Henry Adolphus Rattigan
Sir Henry Adolphus Byden Rattigan (11 October 1864 – 11 January 1920) was a barrister and judge in British India. He served as the Chief Justice of the Chief Court of the Punjab, which became the Lahore High Court. Biography He was born in Delhi, British India, the son of Sir William Henry Rattigan and Teresa Higgins. He was educated in England at Harrow School and later Balliol College, Oxford. Thereafter he was called to the Bar at Lincoln's Inn in 1874. In 1889, he returned to India and enrolled as an advocate at the Chief Court of the Punjab. In 1900 he was made Legal Remembrancer to the Punjab government. He served as a Judge of the Chief Court of the Punjab from 1909 and in 1917 was made Chief Justice. He was knighted in 1918 and remained as Chief Justice until 1920 when he died in Lahore. Alexander Findlay (politician)
Alexander Findlay (25 November 1844 – 2 February 1921) was a Scottish Liberal Party politician and industrialist. He founded Alexander Findlay & Company, a structural engineering company based at Parkneuk Works, Motherwell, in 1888. A prominent figure in local business and political life, he served as Provost of Motherwell 1901–1904.
