William Goodison (politician)
William Thomas Goodison (16 February 1876 – 3 December 1928) was a Liberal party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was born in Strathroy, Ontario and became a business executive, business manager and manufacturer. Goodison attended schools at Strathroy and Sarnia Collegiate before further studies at Osgoode Hall Law School. He became president and manager of the John Goodison Thresher Company Ltd. and president of the Sarnia-based Industrial Mortgage and Savings Company. He served as directory of the Ontario Commercial Travellers Association and in 1925 and 1926 was chair of the Sarnia Board of Education. He was first elected to Parliament at the Lambton West riding in the 1925 general election then re-elected there in the 1926 election. Strathroy-Caradoc
Strathroy-Caradoc is a municipality located in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. It is west of London. Strathroy-Caradoc is a primarily rural municipality. Industries include turkey and chicken hatching and processing, corn, tobacco, automotive, and pharmaceutical. Some industrial products are manufactured in Strathroy, the township's largest locality and its commercial, cultural and industrial centre. Strathroy's hatcheries have seen it referred to as the turkey capital of Canada and even the world. 1926 Canadian Federal Election
The 1926 Canadian federal election was held on September 14, 1926, to elect members of the House of Commons of Canada of the 16th Parliament of Canada. The election was called after an event known as the King–Byng affair. In the 1925 federal election, Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King's Liberal Party of Canada had won fewer seats in the House of Commons of Canada than the Conservatives of Arthur Meighen. King, however, was determined to continue to govern with the support of the Progressive Party. The combined Liberal and Progressive caucuses gave Mackenzie King a plurality of seats in the House of Commons, and the ability to form a minority government. The agreement collapsed, however, after a scandal, and King approached the governor-general of Canada, Baron Byng of Vimy, to seek dissolution of the Parliament. The 16th Canadian Parliament was in session from 9 December 1926, until 30 May 1930. The membership was set by the 1926 federal election on 14 September 1926, and it changed only somewhat due to resignations and by-elections until it was dissolved prior to the 1930 election. 1925 Canadian Federal Election
The 1925 Canadian federal election was held on October 29, 1925 to elect members of the House of Commons of Canada of the 15th Parliament of Canada. The Conservative party took the most seats in the House of Commons, although not a majority. Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King's Liberal Party was invited to form a minority government. Unlike the Conservative party, King's Liberals had the conditional support of the many Farmer/Progressive MPs. The government fell the following year. Governor General Baron Byng of Vimy offered the Conservatives under Meighen a chance to form government. This too fell in short order.
