William Eadie (cricketer)
William Stewart Eadie (27 November 1864 – 20 September 1914) was an English cricketer who played for Derbyshire between 1885 and 1899. Early years Eadie was born in Burton-on-Trent Staffordshire, the son of James Eadie and his wife Jean. His father, who was from Scotland, had established the James Eadie brewery company at Burton in 1854. Career Eadie made his debut for Derbyshire in the 1885 season. For the years 1887 to 1893 Eadie played over 30 matches for the club while it was without first-class status. He then played first-class again intermittently until the 1899 season. He was a right arm batsman who played 41 innings in 23 first-class matches for Derbyshire, with a top score of 62 and an average of 10.5. Death Eadie died at Barrow upon Trent at the age of 49. Burton upon Trent, also known as Burton-on-Trent or simply Burton, is a market town in the borough of East Staffordshire in the county of Staffordshire, England, close to the border with Derbyshire. In 2011, it had a population of 72,299. The demonym for residents of the town is ''Burtonian''. Burton upon Trent has a long history of brewing, at one time exporting beer throughout the world and accounting for a quarter of UK beer production; emulation of Burton water in brewing is called Burtonisation. Barrow upon Trent is a village and civil parish in the South Derbyshire district of Derbyshire, England with a business park planned for the outskirts of the village. The village is south of Derby, and between the River Trent (to the south) and the Trent and Mersey Canal (to the north). Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1899 was the cricket season when the English club Derbyshire had been playing for twenty-eight years. It was their fifth season in the County Championship and they won three matches to finish fifteenth in the Championship table. 1899 season Derbyshire played eighteen games in the County Championship in 1899, one match against MCC and one match against the touring Australians. They only won two matches in the County Championship, which left them at the bottom of the table. The early death of George Davidson from pneumonia in February had deprived Derbyshire of a valuable all-rounder with several years potential service ahead of him, and left the bowling dependent almost entirely upon Hulme, who had probably his best season with 93 first-class wickets in a very unfavourable summer for bowlers due to dry weather. Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1885 was the cricket season when the English club Derbyshire had been playing for fourteen years. They won three first class matches out of eleven. 1885 season Derbyshire played ten county matches, two each against Hampshire, Lancashire, Nottinghamshire, Surrey and Yorkshire and one against MCC. Edmund Maynard was in his first season as captain. Frank Sugg was top scorer. William Cropper and Frank Shacklock shared most wickets with 35 each. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Hampshire County Cricket Club
Hampshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Hampshire. Hampshire teams formed by earlier organisations, principally the Hambledon Club, always had first-class status and the same applied to the county club when it was founded in 1863. Because of poor performances for several seasons until 1885, Hampshire then lost its status for nine seasons until it was invited into the County Championship in 1895, since when the team have played in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England.
