William Delacombe
William Barclay Delacombe (20 July 1860 – 14 October 1911) was an English cricketer. He played for Derbyshire between 1892 and 1900. Delacombe was born in Georgetown, Ascension Island, the son of lieutenant-colonel William Addis Delacombe (d.1902) of the Royal Marines, who took command at San Juan Island in 1867 and had new quarters built for his family there. He attended King's School, Bruton and captained the School XI in 1878. He joined Derbyshire Friars in the same year. Delacombe became secretary of Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1889. He scored 86 in a match for the Incogniti in 1892 and made his playing debut for Derbyshire, then out of the league, also in the 1892 season. He made his initial first-class appearance in the 1894 season against Surrey and played sporadically between 1896 and 1900 with three games in the 1897 season, two games in the 1896 season and 1900 season and one game in other years. Georgetown, Ascension Island
Georgetown is the capital and chief settlement of Ascension Island, in the British Overseas Territory of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, situated on the west coast of the island. The town is centred on St Mary's Church, part of the Anglican Diocese of St Helena and the former Exiles Club, built as a Royal Marines barracks at the time of Napoleon's exile to Saint Helena in the early 19th century. The town is named after George III of the United Kingdom, King George III, who reigned at the time the island was claimed for Britain and garrisoned by the Admiralty in 1815. As well as the church, there is a pier, an athletics track, a small supermarket, Royal Mail post office, snackbar, hotel, police station, Georgetown Hospital, dental surgery, and a library. Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1892 was the cricket season when the English club Derbyshire had been playing for twenty one years. Derbyshire's matches were not considered to be first class in this season. The club had lost first class status after 1887 and did not regain it until 1894, the year before they joined the County Championship. However many of the players competed for the club earlier or subsequently at first-class level. 1892 season Derbyshire played thirteen games, and all except for Cheshire were against sides that they had played in first class matches before 1888 or that joined the County Championship four years later. Sydney Evershed was in his second year as captain. Harry Bagshaw was top scorer. George Davidson scored a century and topped the bowling with 91 wickets. Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1900 was the cricket season when the English club Derbyshire had been playing for twenty-nine years. It was their sixth season in the County Championship and they won three matches to finish thirteenth in the Championship table. 1900 season Derbyshire played eighteen games in the County Championship in 1900, two matches against London County and one match against MCC. They also played a match against the touring West Indies. They only won two matches in the County Championship but a higher number of draws brought them up to 13 in the table. Derbyshire's matches were re-accorded first class status in this season but they did not start to take part in the County Championship until the following season. 1894 season The captains of the leading counties determined that in 1894 Derbyshire with Essex, Leicestershire and Warwickshire , should be given first-class status. The match results did not count in the County Championship until 1895, when Hampshire was also admitted. Derbyshire played eleven first-class games including one against MCC. Incogniti
The Incogniti cricket club was founded in 1861. It claims to be the third oldest "wandering" cricket club – a nomadic cricket club without its own home ground – after I Zingari and Free Foresters (founded in 1845 and 1856 respectively). However, this is inaccurate as the Band of Brothers CC of Kent founded in 1858. The club was founded after a match at Lord's on 25 May 1861, when a scratch team captained by Charles Julius Brune defeated the XYZ Club. It was originally intended that the club would be based at Tufnell Park, but this plan was abandoned and it became a wandering club. The club's colours are purple, black and gold, and its club motto ''Incogniti Incognitis'' (Latin: "unknown only to the unknown") appears on the club's roll of honour on the first landing of the staircase in the pavilion at Lord's. Ascension Island
Ascension Island is an isolated volcanic island, 7°56′ south of the Equator in the South Atlantic Ocean. It is about from the coast of Africa and from the coast of South America. It is governed as part of the British Overseas Territory of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, of which the main island, Saint Helena, is around to the southeast.
