William Bresnan
William J. Bresnan (1933 – November 27, 2009) was an American businessman who founded Bresnan Communications in 1984. He was also chair of the company until his death in 2009. William Bresnan was born in Madison Lake, Minnesota in 1933. He was the third of four children of Ann and Robert Leonard Bresnan. When Bresnan was five years old, his father died from tuberculosis leaving Ann to take care of the family working as a seamstress. At 12, Bresnan began fixing radios for his neighbors working out of his home and the local radio shop. He attended a two-year program focusing on television and radio repair at Mankato Technical School, which is now called South Central College. Bresnan Communications
Bresnan Communications was an American cable television provider formed by William Bresnan in 1984. It originally operated cable systems on Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Over the next fourteen years, its operations spread to Minnesota Wisconsin, Mississippi and Georgia. In 1994, the company added international operations in Chile and Poland, with the creation of Bresnan International Partners. The company reached 400,000 subscribers after purchasing systems from TCI. When AT&T acquired TCI, Bresnan began to consider an IPO. Before that could occur, Paul Allen's Charter Communications made an offer, and purchased Bresnan's U.S. cable systems for $3.1 billion, organizing them under Charter Communications' umbrella. Bresnan re-entered the cable business in April 2002, with the $735 million purchase of former AT&T Broadband Rocky Mountain systems from Comcast. The Westinghouse Electric Corporation was an American manufacturing company founded in 1886 by George Westinghouse. It was originally named "Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Company" and was renamed "Westinghouse Electric Corporation" in 1945. The company acquired the CBS television network in 1995 and was renamed "CBS Corporation" until being acquired by Viacom in 1999, a merger completed in April 2000. The CBS Corporation name was later reused for one of the two companies resulting from the split of Viacom in 2006. The Westinghouse trademarks are owned by Westinghouse Electric Corporation, and were previously part of Westinghouse Licensing Corporation. Madison Lake, Minnesota
Madison Lake is a small city in Blue Earth County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,247 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Mankato- North Mankato Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The area that is now Madison Lake was originally called Barclay's addition. In 1881, this land was deeded to L.S. Barclay for the town and was shortly thereafter named Madison Lake. A post office called Madison Lake has been in operation since 1885. The town took its name from nearby Madison Lake, which was named for President James Madison. The Village was incorporated in 1892. The Wisconsin, Minnesota and Pacific Railroad built westward from Red Wing, Minnesota, reaching Madison Lake by 1884 at a distance 78.4 miles.
